This may be reaching but based upon my personal research into royal/imperial history, as it applies to present-day members of varied royal houses, I'd have to question the source of your information. According to the Almanach de Gotha (which is the perennial authority on "blue-bloods"), the former Máxima Zorreguieta acquired the predicate "Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau" with the title "Royal Highness" which entered into effect upon marriage. That said, she has and only ever will be (at least until the ascension of her husband), Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands. She is not "The Princess of Orange" despite being married to "The Prince of Orange", or for that matter "Crown Princess Máxima of the Netherlands" (a title which has never existed there). That title is officially restricted to only the Heir/Heiress Apparent (which explains why neither Queen Beatrix, nor her mother or grandmother, ever held it!!).

That said, it can be safely presumed that at no given time will there be a "Prince and Princess of Orange" (which would suggest dual heirs apparent). However, in my opinion, it would be far more convenient (in language and print) to use "The Prince and Princess of Orange" rather than "The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands", which takes up quite a great deal of space and effort.

The former Laurentien Brinkhorst acquired the same titles as her more famous sister-in-law, however only as a courtesy (by virtue of her marriage to a man who holds the titles). She is, through marriage only, allowed to be referred to as Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands.

You are quite correct though in your status appraisal of the third sister-in-law, who by virtue of her marriage (which lacks governmental approval) received the courtesy style Her Royal Highness Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau (never of the Netherlands, as her senior in-laws).

When you think about it, they're (the Dutch) honorifics seems to parallel the British in that upon marriage to a royal prince, the bride takes her husband's most senior title (i.e. the former Lady Diana Spencer upon marriage became Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, the feminine equivalent of her husband's most senior title - though NEVER PRINCESS DIANA, as ALL her royal titles were courtesy of her marriage).

Not only it took 5 years, but this sort of info really doesn't belong in the Prinsjesdag thread, regardless the year.

And this is such a source of information:

It's quite endearing to see Her Majesty's reaction in the said video.

Lucien, I'll just pop in here to explain to Simply Amazing that when that post was made (5 years ago, almost to the day), the info came from a reputable source. Unfortunately, some of those details proved to be incorrect.

Isn't it sad that no one seems to be able to go out these days and not be concerned about their own safety. It seems like lunatics and lunacy abound in Europe and in the United States. They seem to have come out of the woodwork lately or in recent years. Many of these people need to be put in mental health facilities but sadly aren't until something tragic or bad happens as a result.

Shortly beforethe primary election ended, I was driving home from work and saw this yellow cadillac which was vandalized in a downtown area in Central Florida. The person who owned the vehicle had strong political views and was known for speaking their mind. Hate messages were spraypainted all over the car, even on the windows and on the windshield. I'm surprised that the tires weren't flatten. This surprised me but considering the political climate in the United states, it shouldn't have. I guess this person is lucky the car was not set on fire.

If you don't agree with someone or you have different viewpoints, fine. But don't do harm to them, their property or their family or others because you don't agree with them.

Prinsjesdag 2011

The annual Prinsjesdag will take place on September 20 this year.

The parliamentary session is opened on the third Tuesday of September each year and Queen Beatrix
delivers the throne speech in which the government announces its targets for the coming year.

Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Máxima, Prince Constantijn, Princess Laurentien,
Princess Margriet and Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven will attend as well.

Here's the information from the royal website and the official site:

The whole thing has become a farce as for the umptieth time the government plans were leaked to the press.

And to make it more idiotic: two MP's have problems with the golden state carriage. One of the scenes painted in the interior depicts the colonies & shows black people receiving 'civilization'. The carriage was painted in 1898 (long after slavery was abolished) but well... The MP's themselves are a former communist and a woman who was accused of unethical behavior during her years as diplomat (hiring the company of her boyfriend) and none have apologized for that yet... So perhaps they can start with themselves before they get some paint and redo the ceiling of the golden carriage.

Quote:
AMSTERDAM -- Critics urged the Dutch royal family Friday to get rid of a painting they say is an offensive reminder of wrongs from the Netherlands' colonial past, but the Royal House defended the 19th-century work as an important part of the country's history.
"Homage of the Colonies" decorates one side of Queen Beatrix's iconic gold-trimmed carriage, and depicts half-naked, brown-skinned women and men in servile poses bearing gifts to an enthroned white woman.
Read the entire article by Forbes here.

Good reaction by the RVD (for a change):

Scheveningen Cavalerie Ere-Escorte oefenen met paarden dmv munitie en rookbommen op het strand van Scheveningen voor Prinsjesdag.

I translated the caption with Google translate "Scheveningen Honorary Escort Cavalry horses through practice ammunition and smoke bombs on the beach of Scheveningen on Budget Day".

Maybe our Dutch friends could help us to translate the caption correctly

NOS.nl is streaming coverage of Prinsjesdag live at the following link:

NOS Nieuws - Live - Politiek 24

--

Everyone is on their way to Ridderzaal. Princess Máxima is wearing what appears to be a long-sleeved gold/beige sparkly gown, with a brownish floppy hat. Haven't seen any of the other ladies yet.

Princess Laurentien in silver. Queen Beatrix - usual cake hat, curtain material dress, feathers. Princess Margriet in red. Seeing Máxima's gown clearer inside, it's an olive-green sparkly gown, with a slightly darker floppy hat, which looks like felt.

Group shot inside the Ridderzaal.

---

ANP gallery - will be updated with more pictures.

Thanks for posting the links - it's so interesting to see!

BTW, I think NOS has described Maxima's dress as being "seagreen" by the looks of it (een zeegroene japon van crepe georgette)
