I think you saw a dark picture by coincidence. Here another picture which shows the imposing salon where King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima received their guests. The chandeliers were burning anyway.
Detail: look how high the fireplace is and how immense the painting above. It must be twice the size of the King, so to see.

Big photo from the gala dinner. Such a disappointment that queen Silvia chose one of her worst dresses to the dinner.

Phantastic!!! So white tie is back in fashion at the Dutch court!
I only wished that Constantijn & Laurentien were there as well. Aren't they supposed to take over the Margriet & Pieter role?

Queen Máxima not being installed with the Seraphim Order, yet?!
I´m so happy that we´ve finally come to what I call "real royal visits"-
these 1-day-visits are really not my cuppa tea...

This is usually done in the framework of a State Visit, as the Seraphim is the highest order of Sweden. This was "just" a banquet to commemorate that in 1614 Sweden did appoint an ambassador for the first time and the Netherlands became the first official Swedish diplomatic mission with an ambassador.
Queen Máxima will, without doubt, become a Dame in the Order of the Seraphim, once. The relationship between the two Royal Houses is close. Queen Juliana (Willem-Alexander's grandmother) was a godmother of King Carl XVI Gustaf. Princess Beatrix (Willem-Alexander's mother) is a godmother to Crown Princess Victoria. King Willem-Alexander is a godfather to Princess Estelle. It speaks volumes.

Also to add Crown Princess Victoria is godmother to Princess of Orange, Amalia

That is the cherry on the royal cake of excellent relationships, of course.

I think we have to wait for a state visit and then Queen Máxima will surely become Dame in the Order of the Seraphim. I can't imagine she won't. I really can't.

i agree, i'm also happy to see a full official visit! hopefully WA+Maxima will start doing an official or state visit at some point soon to another royal country - so that we get to see some tiaras of both families!
concerning the order, maxima already has the Order of the Polar Star. but maybe she will get the order of seraphim this time?

I didn´t doubt the good relationship between the 2 Houses; I just wondered why this high official frame hasn´t been used to bestow the highest swedish order on the dutch Queen. But I guess she´ll have it one day for a state visit.

I don´t think so; she´s wearing the Polar Star tonight. If she had gotten the Seraphim Order she would have worn it for the banquet!
