The Mayor of Groningen, Peter den Oudsten, and the Commissioner of the King of Groningen, Rene Paas, explained the route and the programme of this year's King's Day during a press conference in Groningen today, March 12. This year's logo was presented as well:

Why were there protesters outside the concert?

Why were there protesters outside the concert?

They are protesting the extraction of Natural Gas from the earth in Groningen, because the continious extraction is causing more and more earthquakes in the area

Where is Princess Laurentien? Last time she was seen was a month ago.

Where is Princess Laurentien? Last time she was seen was a month ago.

She wasn't scheduled to attend, so I don't think that anything is wrong.

In previous years there's always been only one other member of the family attending besides Princess Beatrix: Prince Constantijn in 2017, Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven in 2016, Princess Margriet in 2015.

I like that WA is wearing an orange tie! Good to see the Koningsdag celebrations starting - it's that time of year already.

HH Princess Anita, spouse of HH Prince Pieter-Christiaan will not be in attendance in Groningen today due to an illness.

I think that Queen Maxima is wearing the same red barret as she wore in 2004 in Groningen while princess Alexia is wearing the denim Natan jacket of that year.

What a delight to see. EVERYONE having such fun, with so much warmth between them.

Does it ever rain on Kings day? It looks to be a perfect day weather wise in Groningen!

It never seems to rain on this day - what a colourful event and great to see the Dutch Royal Family amongst the crowds!

Ah, I always love to see photos of the annual Koningsdag celebrations. It's great to see the family getting involved with the activities and I like the idea that they have different performances and stalls for them. It's a lot different to other monarch's birthdays which normally consist of some waves on the balcony.
Haha, I agree with those who have said that the weather seems to favour Koningsdag. Mother Nature must be a fan of the DRF :D

No,it doesn't,it never rains on Kingsday, nor Queensday in the past.Somehow the sun always shows face,it is called since days long gone,"het Oranje Zonnetje"..the Orange Sun...never fails, remarkable isn't it.

I must admit I still miss seeing Beatrix and her iconic hats on Koningsdag!

Of course it does.
Video from rainy queen's day in 2010.

According to this article; no rain on 60% of quuen's/king's day over the last 10 years.
Most rain in 2010 (see above). In rainy 2016 the family got lucky; no rain for them but rather cold.
