The first Dutch state visit that has its own thread in this forum dates from 2003. All hestate viits afterwars got seperate threads. We ca use this thread to post pitures, clips etc. of older state visits.

Among them the state visits to Luxembourg and Belgium (1981), Germany, UK, US (1982), an the two that are considered the most impressve/important/sensitive: Indonesia (1995) an Israel (1995).

They we even able to get Bill Clinton to say a few words about the Queen.

They also mention a state visit to Surinam, but considering he election results there a state visit during the Queen's reign is unlikely.

Did Queen Beatrix host a banquet during her trip to Britain in 1982? And if so, where was it held? I believe that Queen Elizabeth II's state banquet for Queen Beatrix was held at Hampton Court.

I believe the return dinner was when Queen Beatrix was wearing the blue dress and Queen Emma's tiara, there is a large gobelin in the background, maybe you/somebody else recognises it?

As far as i know the State Banquet was held at Buckingham Palace and the Return Banquet was at Hampton Court.

I have a query about Princess/ Queen Juliana, and I am wondering if anyone can list the state visits she made Indonesia, both as Princess and as Queen?

She only paid one state visit to Indonesia, which was in 1971.

She never visited the then Dutch Indies as crown princess. There was some talk of it in the thirties IIRC but the death of Q. Astrid of neighbouring Belgium made Q. Wilhelmina's opposition against such a voyage even stronger. After Juliana's marriage travel was difficult due to her pregnancies, WWII and the war of Independance.

I do believe that it was a great wish of Juliana to visit Indonesia and she especially liked the Borobudur. There she made the wish that the press wouldn't make it impossible for her to enjoy the visit.

After her abdication, from 26 may to 10 june 1982, she and her husband paid a private visit to Indonesia. The trip lasted 3 weeks and they were able to see most of the important islands. They were guests of president Suharto, who invited them.

A broadcast of 49 minutes by Polygoon of the State Visit of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard to Indonesia in 1971, only 22 years after the country became independent. It may explain the great crowds. The moment where Queen Juliana makes a wish at the Borobudur temple is perhaps best known in The Netherlands. Queen Juliana had long wanted to go to Indonesia. In the 30-ties there were plans made by Governor General Jhr. Mr. Bonifacius de Jonge but they were supposedly vetoed by Queen Wilhelmina who did not want her daughter and only heiress to take any risks.

I notice there was still an official farewell ceremony, where Crown Princess Beatrix and Prince Clause accompanied them to the airport to wish them a good trip.

Are there any photos available from Queen Beatrix's State Visit to Bulgaria in 1991? I've only seen a tiny one from the State Banquet years ago and I believe she was wearing a green dress and the emerald tiara.
