Denmark and Abu Dhabi sign clean energy deal
...“Our plans are the most ambitious in the world, but we’re on schedule,” said Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at the ceremony on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit in the capital. “Even the abundant oil and gas resources of Abu Dhabi will eventually run dry. This country needs to diversify its economy sooner rather than later.”...

Looks like a courtesy visit, as Fred wouldn't know anything about gas or oil issues. Perhaps the participants enjoyed it, but I don't think anything would have been achieved.

Well, Frederik has dealt with these kind of issues many times before and if he has done his homework, he would certainly have been able to keep a conversation about sustainable energy going for a while and beyond the more obvious.
Frederik's job here is not to achive anything by himself, but rather to lend prestige to the Danish delegation and also ensure that the right people on the right level meet the representatives for the Danish delegation, and letting them achieve something.
I think the Minister for Developement, who is very new in the job, is pretty pleased with having a more experienced Crown Prince around to take the lead, when the show is on.

Agree completely. As Frederik has stated in other trips, part of his job as CP is to help open doors of conversations between two countries, and such.
And as he gave a speech, I bet he did do some "homework"
