Well, for starters her ex-husband Andrew for one has kept her in the same house with him even after they divorced. If the royal family didn't have a need for her, the Queen would not have allowed Andrew and Sarah to have that arrangement.
I saw the Good Morning America interview she gave and Sarah was the one being asked all of the Harry questions. She had no desire to discuss it really.
To me she is a regular woman and that is what the monarchy needs. They don't have a down to earth woman that people can sympathize with. Although they are not holding onto Fergie as her but as a people person.
She doesn't use the Windsor name when she is promoting Weight Watchers(I am a member and have lost 50 lbs, thank you very much:p . I have seen a lot of interviews she gave and have read her articles and not once does she mention the royal family. She mentions her weight issues yes but not the Queen or any of the royal house members.
If you can not see the inspiration she gives people than you are blind.

Rosemary, whatever inspiration she does or dosn't give people is irrelevent.
Your argument is thatThe Royal Familily have some sort of agenda for Sarah. What on Earth makes you think this? She has been frozen out ever since the John Bryan photos were published which was long before she even divorced.
She attends no national events in Britain except for Royal funerals and she even attends these in an independent capacity and does not sit with the rest of the Royals. So why the notion that she has some special role?
Also, everyone knows that Sarah has very civillised private domestic arrangements with her ex-husband so what point are you trying to make by referring to that?
You obviously admire her and perhaps think that Sarah should still be in the Royal fold but she herself has accepted that this will never happen and perhaps you should too.

Sarah will always be known/best known as a royal. What you missed was that she does NOT take advantage of her royal connections with the royal family. She is often addressed still as Duchess of York and as I said before she has two of the Queens Granddaughters. SO unless you have a good time machine handy she is always going to be associated with the royal family.
She also attends recitals etc... with the family after she paid her debt to the Queen which wasn't that long ago. So maybe you missed the news and their are a couple articles and pictures of her with the royal family since that.
And as to her special role. SHe is the mother of the two of the Queens granddaughters and if that isn't Special enough for you I don't know what could be.

Yes she is the mother of two of the Queen's grandchildren as Mark Philips is the father of Zara and Peter. That dosn't give her a Royal role it's simply a fact of life as it is for Captain Philips who is now also independent of the family

These are great - thank you Dennis. It's not so often that we can see something that seems to be a genuine expression of happiness on someone's face. Do you know when they were taken?

her motherhood was most important when the 2 girls were very young and it was a good example to see a divorce where the children must be protected as much as possible.
She has paid her debts (how did she get them in the first place?) but she must know that weight watchers would not have looked at her twice if she was not related to the royals.
she did not want to talk about harry on american tv,
was that after she had defended him? she might have been asked to keep quiet about the subject.

I wonder what she would really look like if you took away the botox & whatever else has been done. Her face looks like it hurts.

I was under the impression that she would be covered by a sheet, and therefore, not really "naked" in the photos.

of course she will be covered one way or another, can not imagine that a single body part that might shock an american (like the bit of Janet Jackson) will be shown.
Have not seen the movie calender girls but I understand it is based on reality, a group of middelaged housewives in a small town in GB who want to raise money for charity.
I think this action of sarah is kind and fine.

Sarah Ferguson is no stranger to glitzy fashion events, but she's more accustomed to watching from the front row than sashaying down the runway herself. The Duchess of York changed all that at the weekend, though, when she joined modelling veteran Rachel Hunter on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
She made her appearance at the annual Red Dress Show, which aims to raise awareness of heart disease. The 45-year-old, who confessed to feeling worried she'd fall off the runway, gave a flawless performance when her turn came. And despite a warm round of applause from the audience, she remained modest, saying her effort "showed that imperfection is good".
Also lending their talents to the Heart Truth fundraiser were Sheryl Crow, Venus Williams, and Paula Abdul. First Lady Laura Bush was there, too, clapping enthusiastically from the front row as each creation went by. The president's wife had an extra reason to support the event as her niece Lauren Bush was modelling a strapless Tommy Hilfiger creation.
Organisers hope the show will help make women more aware of the dangers of heart disease. "A lot of women don't realise the risk that is in their lives," said tennis ace Venus Williams. "But all women realise what's going on in fashion."

She may have been nervous about her catwalk appearance, but flame-haired Fergie was nothing short of stunning in a sensual Ralph Lauren number

Why is she still known as the Duchess of York? Is she still HRH? It's strange that she kept her title, but Diana didn't.

She is Sarah, Duchess of York just as Diana was Diana, Princess of Wales. Sarah lost her HRH style when she and Andrew divorced.
