Funniest video of a young boy crawling away when it came time to meet The Queen at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre-

I'm intrigued by this staff Christmas lunch as I thought they had a big party at Windsor or BP for all employees, so is this just for a smaller number of staff who work closely with HM...or is that who were just ID'd on the pics?

How I'd love to know what was in the gift bags all the staff left with.....

Maybe the Queen dug deep in the vaults and gave away a diamond bracelet to all the ladies? Lol

Maybe the Queen dug deep in the vaults and gave away a diamond bracelet to all the ladies? Lol

Wouldn't that be great?!

I do wonder about the gifts, though, considering the BRF's famous thriftiness. When foreign dignitaries just get a framed photograph, you wonder what the staff get.

Don't they choose their own? I thought they got a set amount spent on them based on length of service and got to pick their own?

Goodness me, there seems to be a rush of people leaving their posts of late.

This is a normal time for staff whose appointments are up to leave and their replacements to take up their positions.

Many of these posts are for one, two or three years and some run from January to December and others are July to June so the CC records a number of these sorts of events in the Queen's diary.

The only reason why anyone would think this is unusual is the publicity about the Sussex household when it is a perfectly normal part of the royal households annual progression.

Many of these posts are held by civil servants or military personnel as part of their normal rotation and so when it is time for them to move on they do so. Equerries, for instance are either two or three year appointments and then they return to their military or civil service job.

There are longer term positions as well of course.

I am sure I remember reading in the CC about the appointment of the new Apothecary meaning that there has been period of time in which there was a hand-over taking place. Or maybe my memory is fading and I am remembering when Dr Holliday was appointed.

Of course many of these are simply because length of term has been met and of course the end of one year is often seen as a good time to leave a job.

In my mind in general in the last year or so there seems to have been a large number of (relatively senior) people leaving their roles. I'm not saying there is a reason or intent behind this, its just something I have noticed and had done before the publicity about the Sussex's staff.

I can think of:
The Queen's Private Secretary (Sir Christopher Geidt left 2017)
The Queen's Assistant Private Secretary (Samantha Cohen left HM in 2018 but actually stayed on to work for H&M but will now move on from royal service)
The Keeper of the Privy Purse (Sir Alan Reid announced in 2016 that he would retire at the end of 2017 and be succeed by his deputy)
The Director of The Royal Collection (new Director appointed in Jan 18)
Private Secretary to Prince Charles (Mark Leishman left in 2017 not long after the Queen's Private Secretary left)
Private Secretary to Prince William (Miguel Head left in 2018)
Private Secretary to The Princess Royal (left this year)
Private Secretary to Earl and Countess of Wessex (not actually gone but job being advertised to start in 2019 as their current Private Sec will leave after 5 years service)
Director of Royal Communications (Sally Osman left in July 18)
Media Secretary to the Queen (Steve Kingstone left in July 18)

That seems quite a lot of senior staff in less 2 years. I'm not saying its unusual or there's something going on, just an observation.

There’s a mass transition happening.

It was reported that Sir Christopher Geidt had a serious run-in with both Prince Charles and Prince Andrew. It story claimed he had overextended his authority and thought he could "speak for HM" to her sons. I believe that when they took offence he believed HM would side with him. She did not and he handed in his resignation forthwith although he stayed on in KP until the end of the school year.

Samantha Cohen wished to resign in support of her immediate boss but HM convinced her to stay on to get Meghan acclimated to the Royal Household and the Sussexes off to a good start in all areas for six months. Samantha is still leaving but her dedication led her to say on way past the six-month mark. It has been reported that she wishes to head home to sun, sea, sand and surf, for a while and with British weather, who could blame her.
