Yeah likely a terrorist scare. Maybe a threat to BP or something. That would be likely considering recent events.

That possibility occurred to me as well. New security protocols, maybe?

Certainly didn't happen with William, why Harry? I would also suspect Meghan would be in the UK if such an announcement was cause. And she isn't.

If there was a terrorist threat at the palace, would they be summoning people there? Highly unlikely. They would be shipping the queen and any royals living at the palace to Windsor or some where else.

Not saying it might not be security related, but that seems vastly unrealistic. If there was concern for the palace, they wouldn't summon more people into it.

This was the first report on today's 3.00pm national TV channel 9's afternoon news broadcast.

They are saying that "speculation building around the world".

Reporting that news crews are gathering outside Buckingham Palace.

If it's a security issue, why would you call people to the security target? Couldn't you just tell the people in Scotland in Scotland? You could probably skype it to the various palaces.

Yes if it was security that bad wouldn't the Queen and staff be evacuated

I still wonder if alls ok why they wouldn't make a statement even if it's the middle of the night.

What's weird is NZ sources saying Philip and Queen are fine but the silence from BBC. Why would BP talk to only certain people and not the BBC?

True, probably not terrorist threat....

https://mobile.twitter.com/journoros...87609405317120 A reporter from CTV (Canada) apparently confirmed on Twitter that both the Queen and the Duke are alive. Dont know how true that is.

If so, it may not have to do with them...Charles perhaps?

NZ news and CTV are not likely to have a scoop. If the palace has actually spoken it would be to BBC. They aren't going to speak to foreign press first.

If the Vancouver time is right for an announcement, that is 2 hours. They are an hour behind me and it is 11pm here.

"Lots of hysterical speculation about a Buckingham Palace announcement. There *is* a meeting today. But it's not -as some say- due to a death"

I dont know, the CTV journalist is verified. Why would she lie about talking to BP?

I tink we should also just wait and see. we well know in a couple hours for sure. To much speculation going on. Could be nothing.

But I think if there was a death only cert reporters would know this. Maybe I am wrong. Wel well knows soon for sure either way.

And all he has said is an announcement is to be made at 12 midnight Vancouver time. Nothing else. It is very possible a general release was sent to all media outlets saying an announcement will be made at this time.

Unlike other sources, CYV is not claiming to have spoken or have inside info. Simply that an announcement is pending.

Whatever it is, its big enough to warrant an pull everyone out of bed at 4am. Does "staff" include members of the royal family? Also, how do we even know an emergency meeting was called in the first place?

It has been known for years that 'when' the title 'merges' with the Crown the intention is that it will be recreated for Edward.

For it to merge with the Crown both The Queen and Philip have to have passed away as Charles is Philip's heir and would inherit all his titles. He would never use them however as he has more senior titles to use.

We have a thread elsewhere to discuss the different scenarios that could happen to the Edinburgh title.
