Every letter that the palace receives is responded to. There are about four secretaries who deal with this. When they read an adorable letter like this they will definately pass it on to her. As they know she will get great pleasure from it. We have seen many documentaries where they showed these ladies dealing with the Queens mail.

And for the previous post the Lord Comptroller deals with the Queens finances. It is his job to put the cheque in the mail.

Two Things are certain...

Thank you for your answer! But Wikipedia claims, the Comptroler is now a largely cermonial job, while there is a Treasurer, a normally promoted Comptroler...

Well, anyway, that was not my point and I am sure, the Queen pays her taxes in time! I am just wondering: Let's say, there is an "activist judge", who happens to be a republican... There is always something in doubt with the taxes! And this activist judge could do quite some image damage to the royals.

In the commentaries of the newspapers (online) one finds often, that the royals live from the taxpayer's money. They do not, but there is a field of problems!

Thank you for the correction Victor. Gosh sometimes it is hard to keep up.

Nice to see the Queen, but stupid article. “Rare public appearance”! She goes to church every Sunday regular as clockwork unless she is ill, so how is that rare?

I find it interesting that Queen is baptized in the Church of England, but, while in Scotland, she attends a parish church of the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland rather than attending a Scottish Episcopal Church service, which would follow an Anglican liturgy instead.

Geographic proximity to Balmoral may be a factor, but I suspect there is also some constitutional motivation behind the Queen's parsih choice given the Church of Scotland's legal status as the "national church" (albeit not an "established church") north of the border. Could anyone please comment if that is the case ?

The Queen attends the Church of Scotland as an ordinary member as that church has Jesus Christ as its head unlike the Church of England where the Queen is supreme governor.
The Official Royal website explains the constitutional position of the monarch with the Church of Scotland:

The Wikipedia article (while rather unsourced) of Crathie Kirk, lends an interesting perspective of this.

Per the article, Queen Victoria began worshiping there in 1848, even laying the current church at the site. Victoria described the Scottish Episcopal Church (or rather its Bishops) as being dissenters.

Looking a bit more into the history of the Scottish Episcopal Church, it seems that as the “other” religion, going against the official religion of the country (Presbyterianism). It kind of looks like the Episcopal Church had the support of the monarch during the reigns of Charles II and James II, but when William III and Mary II came to the throne and restored the Presbyterian Church to power, the Episcopalians refused to swear allegiance to William III, and instead supported Jacobitism - per Wikipedia, about half the Scottish Jacobites were Episcopalians. They did end up officially recognizing George III, after Charles Edward Stuart passed, but even through to Victoria’s reign the clerical disabilities that had previously been imposed against the Episcopal Church still existed.

That all is likely why Victoria and Albert chose to worship at Crathie in 1848. Why now, 170 years later HMQEII continues to worship there is likely much to do with tradition and the fact that it’s the Scottish church that she was raised in (and her father, his father, and his own father before her).

He is still able to drive in his age? Wow!

You just can't keep a good man down. He is in amazing shape for being 97 years young and I think he's at his happiest when he is doing stuff. He'll never make a good couch potato. :D

I've always thought that Philip has incredible stamina for his age, and these photos are just proof of that. Amazing to hear that he still drives himself. I'll bet he still thinks he's in his mid 30s at heart :D

:previous: The headline made me laugh out loud. How surprising it is that the Queen resembles her own self in profile. ??? God bless the DM when it amuses me.

That photo is stunning, IMO. The sedate glow about her edges is lovely. I have relative that is a professional photographer, and there is a name for this "glow" effect, that I cannot recall just now. But it's an effect that has to be sought out - and is not always successful.

It’s a very lovely portrait of Her Majesty. I know she miss wearing her furs on regular basis. She wore them a lot during the State Opening of Parliament. She can’t do that now the Opening was moved to May.

I saw this on our news tonight. I quite like Some of David Hockney's work. We have quite a bit of it at the National Gallery.
However, I don't like this particular work for the Abbey. I prefer traditional stained glass art work for churches. Just my preference.

Oh my!! This is one movie that I will definitely get a copy of on the release date. Its my kind of movie. Its super cute, has corgis in it and my favorite royal family to boot. I love it!!
