Everyone looking their best in their ceremonial wear including mascot Domnhall.

Regarding Kate and her pint of Guinness I'm not sure if I could tackle that in the morning either.

I'm not seeing any shade- just a bunch of historical images related to today. What are you seeing?

I saw, in leading off with George V and including Edward, a response to the hysteria last year about "a hundred years of tradition" of Royal women handing out the shamrocks being carelessly tossed out the window by Catherine.

My first thought was "At least this event being embargoed and non-photographed cannot have any complainers"!

Prince William and Kate managed to fly under the radar as they paid a secret visit to MI6 on Wednesday. The couple's appointment was a private one, and followed the tradition of the royal family supporting the country's security services. Kensington Palace released a statement to HELLO! Online, confirming: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Services at Vauxhall Cross, London, on Wednesday 28th June 2017."

They added: "The royal family has a long history of supporting the security services and this visit was in that tradition. The visit was the Duke and the Duchess's second visit to the Headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Service. (They previously visited in 2012)." Little more is known about the top-secret visit, and William and Kate were not pictured arriving or leaving the central London headquarters.

In amongst the flurry of events published today is that William and Catherine will carry out a joint engagement on 5th September but information is currently embargoed.

Is this perhaps the Norway trip, mentioned by William a few months ago?

Had the sun been shining , or at least it not raining, it would have been lovely to see George and Charlotte scarpering around also. ?

THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE WILL ATTEND THE ROYAL VARIETY PERFORMANCE

Palladium Theatre, London

Friday 24th November 2017

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Royal Variety Performance at the Palladium Theatre in London on Friday 24th November.

The Royal Variety Performance takes place every year, either in London or in a theatre around the United Kingdom. The event is in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, formally, the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund, of which the Queen is patron. The money raised from the show helps hundreds of entertainers throughout the UK, who need help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times.

The evening will be hosted by Miranda Hart and will include performances from the Killers, Paloma Faith, Louis Tomlinson and the Script.

The origins of the Royal Variety Performance date back to 1912 when King George V and Queen Mary agreed to attend a 'Royal Command Performance' at the Palace Theatre in London, in aid of the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund.

In July 1919, the second royal show was performed and was the first to be billed a "Royal Variety Performance". Held at London's Coliseum, the show was staged as a 'celebration of peace' and, as the official announcement expressed it, "had been commanded by The King to show his appreciation of the generous manner in which artistes of the variety stage had helped the numerous funds connected with the War".
On the night, Their Royal Highnesses will meet a number of performers as well as Royal Variety Charity and ITV executives, both before and after the show.

I so wish Catherine would wear a tiara to this like the Royal ladies did long ago, but I know it won't happen.

Yeah we are all getting shortchanged on tiaras...they wear them maybe 3 or 4 times a year if we are lucky!

What must Queen Mary being thinking!!

I'm pleasantly surprised the Cambridge's are attending! Hopefully this is the first of many appearances by them. Nice to see the younger generation of 'senior' royals throwing their support behind the Royal Variety Performance

It's not the first time ! They already attended back in 2014 in lieu of the Queen.

The late Queen Mother too. I think royal ladies of today follows The Queen’s lead in not wearing tiaras to the event. The Queen Mother continued on wearing her tiaras to galas too. It’s about choice. Nothing is really stopping them from wearing it to the Royal Variety Performance.

And Harry attended in 2015. They seem to have got into a pattern of alternating. Charles and Camilla attended last year.

Prince William and Kate have visited Villa Park for a tour of the stadium today as part of a wider visit to the West Midlands. The Prince is a big Villa fan and couldn't resist talking about the team's progress this season.
