I have read somewhere (but cannot remember) that George V wore a red tie when he first received Ramsay MacDonald as Prime Minister. I could be wrong here.
The Royal Collection Trust has released an image of George V mowing the lawn at Adelaide Cottage wearing a top hop. Dowager Queen Alexandra (also in the picture) was watching her son. Queen Mary has captioned the picture with 'G. in tall hat!'. This photo was taken on the 6th May 1915
