Royal and Noble Castles and Palaces

Other than in their home country's, what other countries do royals have homes?

Oh, and it would probably be considerate not to mention the exact location of the homes, but moreover just the country.:)

I think I've previously missed this thread, but this is a great topic! It would be really interesting to learn - cause I know a lot of royals have like vacation homes abroad etc, so here we could make a full list!

Here is the facts about the Swedish Royal Family on this topic:

# Villa Mirage, S:t Maxime, France - used as a summer vacation home (property of King Carl XVI Gustaf)
# Storlien Cottage, Jämtland, Sweden - used as a winter vacation home (property of King Carl Gustaf)
# Apartment, London, the United Kingdom - used as an over-night apartment by Princess Lilian on the yearly trips back to her original country and her London-based designer (property of Princess Lilian)

# Villa in Vence, France - used as a vacation home (property of Princess Christina, Mrs Magnusson)
# Apartment in Mallorca, Spain - used as a vacation home (Princess Désirée Baroness Silfverschiöld)

Two of King Carl XVI Gustaf's sisters (Princess Birgitta and Princess Margaretha Mrs Ambler) also have their home base abroad, but that's permanent - so it doesn't fit into this thread category.

For the dutch royals, as far as I know:

Villa 'l'elephante felice' in Porto Ercole, Italy (owned by Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, no idea who owns it now)

The tuscan villa/farm 'Rocco di Dreigoni' of Queen Beatrix.

Princess Margriet owns a chalet in Lech

Princess Irene owns a villa in South Africa.

Many palaces are huge places that nobody in their right mind would want to live in. My ideal palace would be small and homely so I'd pick Noordeinde in The Hague or the royal palace in Nuku'alofa, the capital of Tonga. This palace only has eight rooms and you can just imagine yourself living here.

Wink The Winter Palace

Hi,

I'd love to live in The Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. This place is more ornate and sumptuous than Versailles.
The Jordan Staircase, The Nicholas Hall and St. George's Hall and all that art next door at The Hermitage would suit me fine!!!!
This is a fantasy, so why not dream big!!!!

Kensington Palace for me, in spite of heartbreak

For me, it would be Kensington Palace, in spite of the heartbreak Diana suffered there. I think she had many happy times there, too. Each time I've been there, it's seemed kind of spooky and dark, but the grounds are so beautiful and the location so magnificent - it's truly a beautiful palace outside especially, in my opinion.

Schloss Pillnitz

One of my faves. A former palace of the Kings of Saxony. Very elegant.

I was thinking along the same lines. A very beautiful castle that I wish was my own. Picture perfect from every angle ... even though I've never seen it in person. :( There are a few interior decorations I would change first though.

Oh yes. I would want a palace like that as well.

Warren, that Palace is so adorable. I love the roof. Yes, unfortunately I note the roof above everything else.

Well, I have come to the conclusion that I couldn't possibly have one palace - I must have many! :)

Oh, I thought of another. No where near as enormous as Neuschwanstein, but Schloss Sansousi in Potsdam, built by King Freidrick II Der Gross von Preussen. The castle (which I believe was either being considered to be restored to the Hohenzollern family, or if it actually was). This beautiful 1 story palace sits perched on a hill, looking over a great park, a lake at it's centre. Other building in the park are the Great Palace, the Chinese tea house and the Orangery.

This palace is one of the period's finest architectural triumphs, built by the artistic and later great military leader-King Frederick the Great.

The von Schlesian Palace

Previously known as Sanssouci.
Two pics: close up and long shot.
I trust von Schlesian will have the stonework cleaned before he moves in.
