What a great find.

Following your lead, I found an Ethiopian medal that has a similar crown to the one on the silver beaker.
Medals - Ethiopia

It's nothing I recognise, I'm afraid. I think you probably need an expert in the area. Maybe the assay office where the silver hallmarks were registered might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply. I may try to contact the maker as they are still in operation.
Happy New Year!

Thank you for this! I would never have guessed Ethiopia. Some extra research for me! Happy New Year.

Cypher is please.

Good day.
I'm new to the forum but have a quick introduction on the newcomers thread.
However, I joined up as I often find copper cookware with cypher & monogram inscriptions.

Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated ?

All the best, Steve

Victoria & Albert ?

It is almost identical to the monogram of the Dutch King, here on a button worn on uniforms of his palace staff: https://www.paleisamsterdam.nl/media/images/IMG_1838_ZbMcnjh.width-500.jpg

Many thanks Duc_et_Pair.
I think you are right. Ideal!
I have found the exact mark searching for "Victoria and Albert cypher"

Thanks for your suggestion.

French Crown/Coronet ID help request?

Good day all.
Hope you can help with the ID of any of these three marks?
Sourced from France so I presume they are french marks?

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

All the best, Steve

It are most likely heraldic rank crowns:

The first one is the heraldic rank crown of a British Earl.

The second is the heraldic rank crown of a Continental Count (Germany, the Low Countries, Austria).

The third one is the heraldic rank crown of a baron in Spain and Portugal.

Unknown royal monogram

Hi !

Can anyone identify this very old monogram? this cypher appears on a old lock which was made in XVII or XVII centuries...

Could this be the dual cypher of Archduke Albert of Austria and Infanta Isabella of Spain who were sovereigns of the Spanish Netherlands ca. 1600??

thanks a lot!!!

Interesting and quite precise in it's decor.
I hope someone identifies the lock; I will be keen to know the history.
I see an A.

It is an intriguing mystery! Do I see two "C" s back-to-back with interlocking curves? Good luck solving this! [emoji4]

Do you know which were the Royal Cyphers, Coronets, Arms and Monograms of Princess Mafalda of Savoy - Hesse?

Unknown Royal Monogram

Greetings, I am very new here and hope that I am doing things correctly.
A good friend of mine died and left me these two silk or satin photo pouches?
Each of which have a monogram that I have not been able to identify. They are approximately 6 x 9 inches in size. Perhaps they held an invitation or something like that. I will try to attach images of these items.
Thank you in advance for reading my post and pondering my mystery.
Cheers,
Jarema

Can anyone identify a royal (?) monogram

Dear All,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me identify a monogram on the stock of an antique shotgun. It is a gold crown with a distinctive letter H underneath. I believe the crown may signify a royal monogram or cipher, but I am no expert in such matters.

Hopefully the picture below may help

Thank you

I believe the 'crown' is actually the coronet of a Marquis (but the H remains a mystery). The gun was manufactured in 1859/1860

Mysterious Cypher

Cypher query

Hello there! Another new member here wondering if any of you kind people could help to identify the cypher on a piece of Jewellery we have?

It’s probably late Victorian period.

Many thanks in advance

Old German Target Pistol with Royal? Monogram/Cypher engraved, Help ID please

Handling some guns for an old collector and thought this place may be able to help ID the maker and/or the Royal connection if there is one.

On the Barrel

O. Bertram
Buchsenmacher (Gunsmith?)
Berlin

On the cap of the grip, magnificently engraved is a crown over a monogram

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your first post.

Büschenmacher does indeed mean a highly skilled gunsmith. Who is able to design, build and modify weapons of a very high quality. An artisan.

When do you believe the weapon is from?
Is it flintlock or percussion?
What's the design?
Is it a duel pistol or a more general weapon? Or even a hunting pistol?

Sorry, I really have no idea where to start with the who for, short of asking here :)

I will add some more pictures, it is a 30 to 32 Cal Centerfire Parlour Pistol which should help narrow down a time. 32 S&W Short fits in the chamber perfectly with some chamber length to spare, I don't have any 32 S&W Long handy to try, not that I have any intention of firing it :)

I should note, I removed the barrel from the action and can find no proofs outside the makers mark on the top of the barrel. Hammer and barrel release look to have worn Gold plating on them, frame is silver? plated brass, grips are Ivory

So metal cartridge.
That combined with the design of the hammer suggests to me that it is after 1865/1870.

No makers name suggests to me it's a pistol made/converted by the gunsmith.

I suggest you contact German collectors clubs. Waffensammler.
Or gun-traders: Waffenbörse.

There is even an American guy on YouTube ForgottenWeapons. He is very serious and has an impressive knowledge about European gunmarks.
I seriously suggest you try and contact him.

When you find out something, please let us know. ?

Thanks, I am friends with Ian @ Forgotten Weapons, I should reach out to him as well, I suppose the gun is less the mystery to me, and I am mostly intrigued by the potential Royal it was made for, and who's Monogram is on the gripcap. Makers name is O. Bertram marked atop the barrel above Büschenmacher

If indeed it belonged to a royal, that could be pretty much any Central European royal family.
Or any German Fürstenhaus/principality - and there were a lot of them around prior to 1871!

I would like to give this discussion some new life. I just bought this gun. I too would like to know whose monogram this is.

Thank you!

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this monogram "LS" or "SL" under a royal crown.

I have tried a number of mainly German Kings, Dukes and Princes but to no avail.
Many thanks in advance for your help and expertise,
