Yes... Princess Anne was appointed to that Order for bravery during a kidnap attempt in 1974--a knighthood for swearing, so to speak. :)

I think it is interesting to find some picures of royals who wear their ribbons incorrectly.

The Shah of Iran wears both the Collar and the Sash of the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav on this photo. Those insignia are not to be used together.

The practice of wearing both the Collar and Star/Sash of an Order very much so depends on the situation, the reason for wearing the particular order, and seniority of the order.

There are cases when the they are worn together.

The statute of this particular order does not allow for it. The order badge, which is hanging from the ribbon on the photo, should've been attached to the collar.

Ahh yes Mapple, I see what you mean. I admit to not knowing as much of foreign Orders as those of the United Kingdom. You don't have the same trouble with the Order of the Garter. The 'Lesser George' pendant suspended from the sash, is very different to the arms suspended from the collar.

Yes, the Order of Garter has two different pendants. Nevertheless, Knights of the Garter do not wear the collar and the sash simultaneously. The best example is the Duke of Edinburgh, who wears the collar of the Order of the Garter and the sash of the Order of the Thistle at the State Opening of Parliament.

no. being the heir or monarch has nothing to do with the way you wear your sash. It depends on the sash. As I said, The Danish Order of the Elephant's sash goes from your left shoulder to your right hip, while the Swedish Order of the Seraphim's sash goes from your right shoulder to your left hip.

however, not everyone is going to have the same sash. For example, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, and Crown Princess Victoria have the Danish order of the Elephant, while P Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip don't. Some members of a family may have one sash, while other's wont.

Yes, I've forgotten about that occasion. But it is a once-a-year event when the Knights are dressed not to 'general' etiquette standards.

This is information about the Norwegian Order of St. Olav. It's from the Royal House of Norway's web-site. There are some photos...Don't know if it was this you were looking for but anyways :)
