Henri, Do you know if a member of their security detail is usually with the members of the Royal House when they're driving or are they following at a close distance?

Sorry, I don't want to argue, but it seems to be a Ford Focus (look at the indicator light or the bodywork over the wheel). Perhaps now she has a Volvo, because the picture is from 2003. But believe in me, this is no Volvo. The XC90 is an off-road car and this is a limousine or an estate car.

You are right, I was meant to post another picture, I will search for it. According to hollandcourier the Queen drives in a Volvo V70 XC which is a stationwagon with fourwheel drive.
Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima both drive in the Volvo XC90 a terrain vehicle indeed.
The details can be found in this book. From the Minerva in the 1920's to the Volvo of today.

There are always security cars following the most important royals. (= the Queen, the Prince of Orange, Princess Máxima, Princess Margriet, etc.) In public and in private. In the Netherlands and outside the Netherlands. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thank you. I wonder if the royals have also been instructed in a bit of defensive driving. I'm picturing the Queen in James Bond mode right now.

Didn't we have a thread like this before?
Kings of Spain:

In Mallorca they tend to drive themselves around more often:
in Mallorca

leaving the airport
So which royals have ever been fined for speeding? The first person that comes to mind is Princess Anne But I know there are more.

She looks a lot like her mother in this pic. She hardly can watch what's going on on the street Don't think she drives on the motorways.

Queen Rania and King Abdullah have often been photographed driving themselves. Queen Rania in particular has been seen driving herself to official functions.

Does anybody know very much about the cars used by the British Royal Family? I know the PoW household has a collection of Audi A6 estates and Charles has an Audi A8 and a Jag, and privately he also owns an old Aston DB5. What about the rest of the family? Is there a thread where this is covered?

Thank you for the pictures of Diana at the wheel. I wondered if anybody had more recent prictures of other members of the royal family?

The British Royal Family always had British cars - Jaguars, Bentleys, Landrovers / Range Rovers etc .. Princess Diana caused controversy when she started driving an Audi Convertible but since then the rules seem to have slackened somewhat ... Wills had a Volkswagen Golf & now drives an Audi, Harry had an Audi A3 - not sure what he drives now. Prince Charles usually in Jaguars & has vinatge Aston Martins & the Queen has a special custom built Bentley & around Windsor at Polo she's often seen driving herself in a Jaguar. Usually when Harry / Wills chauffeured it's Range Rovers & the Royal Protection Squad usually always in Range Rovers ... Around Windsor / Balmoral they have a huge fleet of Landrovers / Discoveries / Range Rovers & are often seen driving them - especially Prince Phillip ... & of course Zara P is sponsored by Landrover so got given a free Range Rover Sport & Landrover.
Forgot to say - The Queen doesn't drive on public roads ... only around her estates - In Windsor she can go for miles & miles without leaving her land, likewise in Balmoral ... When Wills & Harry out driving though, they're never alone - always Range Rovers on their tale obviously security is paramount - you often see them around Park Lane area / Brompton Rd

Thanks very much. I also think the rules re royals and Bristh cars have slackened because there aren´t that many cars made in the UK by "British" manufacturers any more.I thinkthe largest manufacturer of cars in the UK now is Honda.
