Of all the children in the world, IMO royal ones are the most likely to be brats.

Yet royal children are never found undisciplined running and screaming around Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Cafe Nero and every other place I want to go for a quiet coffee while their "yummy mummies" sit chatting loudly about absolutely nothing, having taken over the whole place and generally ignoring the fact that their kids are horrid little monsters and will grow up just like their ghastly parents. Give me a royal child any day!

I doubt you'd feel the same when that royal child is doing the same thing but in a huge palace. All children scream and shout, and rich children (bot just royal ones) are often spoilt rotten.

This one is about Alexei Romanov, the Tsarevich.

His father was working outside while they were being held captive and he sprayed his father with cold water! Also he put a strawberry in a woman's shoe and she screamed. Alexei would also lick his plate during dinner to annoy his family. He would also make fun of one of his servants and say "Look at fatty run!"

I love Alexei!

Alexei really had a rather disgusting behaviour at times and it's such a shame that he was spoilt by his family and well everyone, because from letters you can make you that he was a very sweet and caring child when the mischievousness didn't come up in him. I much prefer Anastasia's humour and naughtiness from Alexei's, his was much more hurtful in a way whereas she only was having fun.

You don't have to be rich to spoil children rotten. I freely admit to utterly spoiling my 4 year old nephew and 18 month old niece, and I'm a long, long way from being rich.

The fact that I spoil them doesn't make them bad kids, or unruly kids. They're reminded that they're very lucky to have family who love them and who can provide for them.

I never said because they were spoilt they were unruly, I said all kids are unruly rich or not.

Granted you don't have to be rich to be spoilt, but it helps with the spoiling :)

Totally in agreement with you. You just have to have a look out there, unspoiled rich children are more the exception than the general rule, IMO.

Not sure if this qualifies as an anecdote but I do love the joke the Duchess of Cornwall made today, during a visit to Battersea Dogs Home.

One of her rescue dogs, Beth, took a dislike to the waiting pack of royal photographers and began barking loudly.
The Duchess, grinning mischievously, said: "Look how well trained she is".

Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on hearing that Edwina Mountbatten wished to be buried at sea "Dear Edwina, she always did like to make a splash". LOL.

I would like to share a 'nobility' story from Ramadanid dynasty:

When Dervish Beg, 13th ruler of Ramadanid dynasty was a young man; a robber entered his residence at a night time and stole some jewelry. However, guards realized him and followed, but robber could achieve to escape. Robber took shelter in Dervish Beg's cousin, Panoghlu Musa Beg's residence in order to escape following. Dervish Beg's guards laid siege to Musa Beg's hall not to allow robber escape.

In the following morning, Dervish Beg requested Musa Beg to turn the robber over to punish him but Musa Beg refused as "one who took shelter our house, will not be turn over to anybody, even if he is a criminal. That is against the Oghuz tradition".

For one week, Dervish Beg and his guards did not leave Musa Beg's hall and event would become a crisis and even a gunfight between two noble cousins. Finally, with the peacemaking efforts of a local religious leader, they agreed on robber will give back all the things he stole but Dervish Beg will not do anything to him, release without punishment.

This story is still being told to represent an example the tradition and principle of "Do not hand anybody if he took shelter to you whoever he is, even a criminal".

King Gustav V of Sweden was an eager and talented tennis player. When he once played a training match with some famous tennis player, this tennis star shouted him: “More to the left, Your Majesty, far more to the left!” “Yes yes, you talk like my socialist Prime Minister”, the King replied.

Sometime in the 1960’s a Nobel Prize winner was seated between Princess Christina and her mother Princess Sibylla at the Nobel Banquet in Stockholm City Hall. In his right ear young Christina chatted about the length of the banquet and the hilarious moment some years ago when some prizewinner had climbed over the long table when going to the podium to keep his speech. Christina had found this very entertaining. But in the same time in his left ear the dignified Sibylla was recalling in tones of shocked decorum how some unmannerly prizewinner had climbed over the table.

:previous: Good one.

Queen Margrethe was asked at a press conference before her sons had married, whether a future wife would have to be blue-blooded.
QMII laughed: "Good heavens, I'm not going to request a blood sample. - What an amusing question".
Next (silly) question, please!

QMII also talked with a man who was an eager sailsportsman and he told about sharks circling the boat during some race, when QMII inquired: "Do you get points if you ram such a thing"?

The British Cunard oceanliner Queen Mary was at first going to be called Queen Victoria.
The head of the Cunard company told King George V that he wanted to name the ship after the greatest of all the Queens of England.
King George V, whose Queen Consort was Queen Mary, thought that his spouse would be pleased. :queen::queen3:
