Prince Maurits of Orange:

Maurits and his brother Frederik-Henry on the beach of Scheveningen (they would be so shocked if they could see it today):

Aha! So that's perhaps why Constantijn chose 'Leonore' as the name for his latest daughter: the name runs in the family!

Great thread Marengo!
Especially Amalia van Solms, she is so pretty in a girl-next-door kind of way, terrific!

and the painting of a young Willem van Oranje....he was soooo handsome!

I wish he had named his daughter after Eleonore, but to be honest, I don't have a lot of faith in the historical affection of the present royals, not ieven in that of 'historian' Willem-Alexander.

But Constantijn might be different, he reintroduced 'Casimir' as well :)

I am planning to make this a HUGE thread with pictures and paintings of ALL the royals, in chronological order, they are already are in my photobucket! After that I hope to provide some information about the royals... (wikipedia is my friend, though I need to translate it).

PS, I agree, Willem I was very handsome....

Absolutely stunning! the top part looks exactly of the same material and pattern. Wonder if this was intentional or not?

Well, they didn't name her Amalia for nothing I strongly believe it was intentional (though the painting is in Italy, so they haven't seen that one).
