He was also king of Denmark ,Sweden and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein but his memory is tainted from the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520 which led to his downfall and imprisonment.

The king was at first buried at the Franciscan Friary Church in Odense up until 1807 when it was demolished.
The remains of the king ans other royals buried there were moved to St. Canute's Cathedral in Odense.

The Dissolution of the union between the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden had taken place during that summer,and one of King Oscar II's younger sons was initially invited to be elected as King!
