BTW: After the Lodge was completed in 1911, The RF used to celebrate every Christmas there during the reigns of Haakon VII and Olav V, something the King and Queen have mostly continued with.

And no, we haven't heard anything about Märtha and her children yet, but they will most likely celebrate with the Behn family (as Ari celebrated with the royals last year).

So, what are they going to eat today (on Christmas Eve, which is the main day of Celebrations here in Norway)? Well, in contrast to us ordinary Norwegians (one can read what we eat in this English Wikipedia article - link), they've adopted a Danish-Christmas-tradition (through the Danish-born King Haakon WII) of eating roast pork as the main course. - And Queen Maud's English plum pudding for dessert, which nobody in the family likes, according to The King. :lol:

First Day of Christmas (December 25th): The Regent-Couple and The CP-Family will attend the traditional Christmas-Service in Holmenkollen Chapel (not long from The Royal Lodge) at 12:00 in the afternoon. TV2 News Channel will be live outside, with a reporter and their Royal Expert, Kjell Arne Totland.

I suppose royals are required to keep to tradition at any price. ;) It is a nice contrast in that the strikingly modernizing and "Norwegian" royal house of Norway (the first European royal house to establish the standard of marrying ordinary private citizens from their own country) maintains traditions from their foreign dynastic heritage.

It certainly sounds as if the princess has continued to enjoy a good relationship with the family of her former husband.

But children today nevertheless have to be surprisingly conform in order not to stand out. And one of the last things children want is to stand out.
Children are, through peer-pressure, even required to be unique in a conform way!!

"My dad is in prison" don't earn many points most places. So along with children of parents who are mentally ill or alcoholics, I bet these children are used to lie routinely. - A surprising number of their parents no doubt work "in the off shore industry" or "working construction in Sweden."

Not that it was any less difficult for that reason of course, but people were not so obsessed with ''that everything has to be so freaking perfect all the time,'' which made it easier to be yourself, whether you came from a troubled family or not.

Thank you for your comments, Muhler and Royal Norway. It is interesting, and troubling, that the problems experienced by the children of inmates are a sign of generally increasing pressure in society.

Yes, as one can see - and as W.Y.CII stated, Sverre is supporting his grandmother on the icy (although sanded) ground, while The King (whose walking is not the best these days, due to back/leg pains) managed himself without any help (not bad): TV2 video (link).

About Holmenkollen Chapel: Wikipedia article.

BTW: Princess Astrid (who now celebrates elsewhere with her own bunch) has always had good childhood-memories from the Christmas-services in Holmenkollen, and since she and her family have always belonged to Ris Parish, which manages the chapel, she chose to christen all her five children there.
It was also the place where her third child and oldest son, Alexander Ferner, married in 1997 - and where the funeral service of her husband, Johan Martin Ferner, was held in 2015. And it was the princess herself who raised most of the money to the rebuilding of the new chapel-bulding after the old one was set on fire and burned down as a criminal offence (by arson) in 1992 (read more about it in the article).

1. The children.
2. That they still enjoy each other's company.

Yes, post #762. I think she and the girls attended last year with their Majesties, while the CP couple were with Mette-Marit's mom. (I may be wrong)

It would be nice to see all of them together, though. I guess we'll have to wait for paparazzi pics of a family vacation :neutral:

She was asked (by TV2's reporter) whether it has been a nice service, to which she replied: ''Ja, nydelig (Yes, lovely)!''

And BTW: ''Thanks'' means ''takk'' in Norwegian, while ''tak'' is the Danish version. ?

Ah, so it was a white Christmas for the NRF! Nice to see them together at the service.
 
What a beautiful Chapel. All that glowing wood and those wonderful chandeliers make it look like Christmas and it must look the same all year. What a beautiful place for the congregation worship an how special it must be for the NRF to join them to celebrate Christmas in serenity and joy.

But these are not Christmas cards, they are photos taken in the Christmas season which can be posted on the website within hours. Cards are mailed out weeks in advance.

The Spanish royals are certainly not the only one whose Christmas cards are not remotely Christmas. Look at the Brirish royals. Anything remotely Christmas like about the Cambridge card??? The photos are often just taken from another shoot during the year. Unseen photos released.

Lovely Christmas pictures indeed though. I love how all three Scandinavian families give us some glimpses into their personal celebrations. Norway bit more formal then the other two but still.

:previous: I wonder if Uvdal is where the family will be spending their Christmas this year? It's just over 4 hours away from Oslo, so it would be too long of a journey to spend for the day, unless they got up super early. Udval looks to be a beautiful part of Norway and it certainly seems snowy there! The little church looks cosy.
 
Yes, they are. The NRF announced last week (with the release of the pictures of the Christmas photoshoot) that the crown prince family would be spending Christmas in Uvdal.

The king and queen are not in Uvdal; they are spending Christmas at the Royal Lodge (Holmenkollen) with Märtha Louise.

Hmm, a mistake IMO. He could have arrived separately but still been there. Unless maybe he is no longer just her boyfriend.
