Her Majesty is really taking her time for this visit! I was on Curacao this march and you can drive around the island in one afternoon. The people on the Dutch Antilles must be thrilled to be visited by their 'Princess smile' as the RF was rather popular there, and half the island is named after royals (Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus laid the first stone of the hotel I stayed in for example).

Her Majesty will arrive in The Netherlands Antilles on saturday (Curacao),ahead of the official visit that starts on monday in Aruba.

(Btw,a historical agreement has been reached concerning the future of the Dutch Antilles.Like Aruba,Curacao and Sint Maarten will get the Status Aparte on july 1st 2007.They will be independent within the frame of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.Bonaire,St.Eustatius(Statia) and Saba will become dutch municipalities(according to their wish) .This is the result of many years of talks and frictions between the islands and Curacao, the latter was/is seen as a "freeloader" by the others, much of their income/taxes goes to "Curacao"(government)and they hardly see anything in return investment wise. The dutch government will take care of the debts of the Antilles (2.5 billion euri...thanks guys).Due to the agreement on july 1st 2007 The Dutch Antilles will cease to exist as such).

Today there was an article in 'de Telegraaf' about youngsters who will be meeting the Queen in Curacao. Apparently they were so nervous about meeting the Queen that they went to a course to control their nerves and to learn how to greet the Queen. I believe there were 3 sessions in which they learned that they mattered and the teacher tried to calm their nerves by making them imagine the Queen as tiny as possible, with clownshoes, in bikini etc. She also told the class that the Queen is a person as anybody else, she has to shower, eat, go to the toilet etc.

The local Curacao newspaper and the people who live on Curacao are not to pleased that HM is starting her visit on Aruba this time, due to island rivalry. HM will first land on Curacao and then continue to Aruba where the visit starts. It is expected that the Curacao locals will welcome HM on the airport, so to spoil the premiere of Aruba. Curacao newspaper Amigoe also bashed the programme of Aruba.

It's too bad she couldn't have been accompanied by for example Constantijn, her youngest. But although he is the 'spare' officially, that doesn't take away from the fact he holds down a job in Brussels, which, I'd guess, is his priority..too bad she couldn't/didn't take Margriet, or Pieter, or perhaps just Laurentien..but then again, that might have looked weird.
anyhow she looked terrific in that pale blue suit.

Ah, good to see the Queen with the uncrowned Dutch King (of soccer), Johan Cruyff. She opened the first of the playfields that were built by the Johan Cruyff foundation. She will open 2 more on the other islands.
