Emma was never Queen Regnant. She was Queen Consort and then Queen Mother after the death of her husband Willem III. She was also the Regent during her daughters minority.

I think that curtseying has been eliminated in the dutch royal family years ago Queen Juliana didn't like it

Curtsey was abolished in the Netherlands by Queen Juliana. I haven't seen Máxima make a curtsey to the Queen either.

As regards Charles, I don't see why you see a short reign as any type of disappointment. History has shown that short reigns can be very effective and also very popular. Edward VII reigned very successfully for less than a decade, as did George VI for 16 years. Charles could conceivably reign for 20+ years.
If Charles had been King for the last 20 years, the UK would be very much the poorer. The constraints of the top job would've meant his charitable efforts would have had to be put aside, and William would not have been old enough or experienced enough to take it on.

I get the feeling Charles will bring a new flavor to his future role as Monarch. I think he will try to find a way to remain active in his charities and probably pass somethings down to his children and daughter-in-law.

She abolished it? Why?

The Dutch do not curtsey so it won't be an issue.

So Led Zeppelin wrote this for Maxima?
"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen"
Or so :)

I am excited about the news of our Queen. This is a so historical moment for us. She has made a right choice to abidcate. I live in Amsterdam, so of course we go to the Dam square to see the whole inauguration.

I think it is good that Willem-Alexander and Maxima will continue to live at Villa Eikenhorst. Their children can stay at their school and stay with their friends. Also an important fact.

I don't think the princesses need to switch school if they move toHuis ten Bosch, by car it should be a 5 minute drive from Eikenhorst.

I wouldn't say he/she pushed my buttons, I'm not from the UK. I just thought it was a rather odd statement to make, and wanted some clarification on why they felt that way.

I suppose this is the nub of the issue and where we differ. To me being sovereign is not a job, it is a vocation and a duty. It's not something that a person does from 9-5 Monday to Friday until they reach retirement age.
The Dutch evidently look at things differently, but hey, life would be pretty bloody boring if we all saw things in the same way.

LOL. Please be realistic. Charles will be 65 this year (Edward VII was 60 when he ascended the throne and died before he was 70).
If Queen Elizabeth has inherited her mother's genes she might well live until she is 101. Charles would be 80 when and if he ascends the throne. Even if his mother dies earlier he will be an old and no longer very active man when he becomes king. He will bring no new flavor to the Monarch's role.
I am not a fan of the tradition of abdication per se but when I look at the BRF and the excess of age there for probably the next 20 years, I think: Well done, Queen Beatrix.
But of course Queen Elizabeth could not possibly have handed the throne over to her son in 1993, even if she wanted to.

I have such mixed emotions about this. I've really grown to like Queen Beatrix, if not for her quirky hats. Truly, she's been a wonderful leader for her people. I publicly thank her here, for her service and sacrifice to the Dutch people.
All the best to W-A and Maxima on this next chapter in their lives!

P.S. Male heirs are "heir apparent"...females are "heir presumptive" (at least in the UK!)

Yes but in The Netherlands the first born child is heir apparent regardless of gender and now also Prince/Princess of Orange. Under the proposed UK changes a first born female will also be Heiress Apparent even if she has a younger brother.
