In my opinion Frederik VI is one of the most interesting historic kings.
He was the ruler even as a crown prince because his father was insane.
During Frederik VI's rule Denmark was attacked by and fought wars against Britain several times.

Frederik VI:s father was the younger brother of a Swedish queen, Sophie Madeleine. Sophie Madeleine was married to one of our most famous kings ever, Gustav III. Their son, king Gustav VI Adolf, was thus Frederik VI:s cousin.

Frederik's mother was Princess Caroline Mathilde of Wales (1757-1775), Princess of Great Britain and Ireland,Queen of Denmark 1767-1772 and sister of King George III.
She was the youngest child of Frederick Prince of Wales and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, hence her title. Her father died suddenly about htree months before her birth. She was born at Leicester House, London. She was given the title Princess Caroline Matilda of Wales as daughter of the PoW-though by the time of her birth, the title of PoW had passed to her brother.
At he age of 15 Caroline Mathilde (known in Denmark) left her family in order to travel to Denmark and marry her cousin - King Christian VII of Denmark and Norway. She was Queen of Denmark between 1766-1775.

well not quite.....to my understanding king christian VIII of denmark was the first cousin of the half blood to the late king, being a grandson of king frederick V of denmark by his second wife, queen juliana.
however, the queen of king christian VIII, caroline amalie of augustenburg, was the niece of the late king, her mother being his younger sister princess louise augusta of denmark.
so yes the new king was a nephew by marriage but he did not succeed to the throne through that particular family relationship, but as the next surviving male descendant (via the male line) of king frederick v of denmark...

Frederik VI and Marie Sophie Frederikke and their two daughters, Princess Caroline and Princess Vilhelmine, could often be seen sailing on the canals in Frederiksberg Garden.

As for descendants of King Frederik VI: both his legitimate daughters (who survived to adulthood) were childless, but what about Lovisa & Karoline - daughters he had with Frederikke Benedikte "Fru" Dannemand? Both married and had issue...
Are any descendants of this King still alive?

Interesting story! It is worth noting that Iceland belonged to Denmark until the WWII, so that would be why there is such a strong connection between the two countries here.
