Child of: Christian I and Dorothea of Brandenburg

Reign: 1523-33

Marriage: Anna of Brandenburg & Sophie of Pommerania

Children: With Anna: Christian (1503-1559) & Dorothea (1504-1547), with Sophie:Hans (1521-1580), Elisabeth (1524-1586), Adolf (1526-1586), Dorothea (1528-1575), Frederik (1529-56)

Death: 10 April 1533, Gottorp Castle

Throne passed to: Christian III

Notes:

Brother of King Hans. The first king to be called Frederik.

He stayed at Gottorp for most of his reign, only visiting Denmark when needed. Never visited Norway.

Anna of Brandenburg

Born in 1487 in Berlin. The daughter of Johann of Brandenburg and Margrete of Saxony. Married to Frederik in a double wedding, where her brother Joachim married Frederik's niece Elisabeth. Died in 1514 in Kiel of Tuberculosis. Died before becoming queen of Denmark.

Sophie of Pomerania
Daughter of Bugislav 10. of Pomerania and Anna of Poland. Born 1498. Died: 1568.
 
A German psalm, Gott ist mein Heil, Hulf und Trost is believed to have been written by Sophie of Pomerania. :writing:

King Frederik I was Roman Catholic. He encouraged the first publication of the Bible in the Danish language.
