Because protocol dictates they wait at least 6 months from the date of the engagement to get married, so the chances of them knowing exactly when they want to/can get married are slight right now. We didn't know when Victoria and Daniel's wedding was until months after their engagement was announced. Same with literally every other royal that has gotten married within maybe the last 20 years. When Jane Doe and John Q. Public get engaged, do they immediately set a date? No, they don't.
I love how people assume this means something's wrong. Good God, people.

So true. No royal couple (at least the ones I have watched) has had a wedding date picked out when they announced their engagement. When all my friends have announced that they are engaged never has one had a wedding date picked out right then and there.
I can understand being critical but some here are expressing irrational anger towards this couple. They are not even my favorite couple but I feel like defending them b/c of the misinformed views.

Why is it protocol that they wait 6 months?

I think Charlene will have to look at sketches and designers high and low to get the definitive wedding gown for herself. It may very well be Armani- whose designs suit her very well- or something that is by an unknown designer that she discovers. If I get up enough energy to make enquiries first as to whether my designs would be welcome and considered I may send over some of my sketches I have for various wedding confections I have designed myself as I was once designing for a bridal consulting firm.Various textiles have to be seen and tried and she has to be photographed in each to see which one suits her best along with each shade of white etc.
We know Caro and thagang will bein Chanel but what will Charlene's mom be dressed in? She needs a designer too.along with her grand mother.and I wonder if she wil have attendants or bridesmaids as we call them here in North America.

Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly got engaged on January 5, 1956 and got married 3 months later on April 18. Maybe Prince Albert and Charlene will tie the knot on September?

My goodness...an entire year to wait for the wedding? I know that this year is too short notice with all the other Royal weddings scheduled for this year, but..oh well.
This should put to rest any speculation about a shotgun wedding due to pregnancy.

Charlene has been quoted as saying Monsieur Armani and his team know what suits her and I could not agree more...she has not seemed to put a foot wrong wardrobe wise since he has starting dressing her.
Why mess with success? I say stick with what works!

I didnt expect it to be in a year, I thought maybe whithin 6months or so but seems like a summer wedding is more ideal for Monaco.

Why do you think that?

I could be wrong, but i think the time gap is so that the other Royal houses can be given notice, and time to arrange their schedule/calenders. Royals schedule their foreign visits, etc months and months in advance.
They are probably the only people on the planet-other than prison inmates-who know where they will be and what they will be doing a year from now!

PA is not only Charlene's fiancé, but also a Head of State, and his diary is already so crowded that they will have a job finding a date.
The reason his dairy is so crowded is that he has many official duties arising from his position, as well as his strong commitments to charities, especially his own PA2 Foundation.

This arrangement has its pros and cons. It is not really nice to have everything programmed. What you'll do, where you'll go.. Of course you are more regular but there is something stressful in all this.
You put your daily life in class and arrange it according to a calendar
Do i sound excessive..?

azure I can promise that you DON'T sound excessive...I understand what you mean.
Princess Grace-God rest her soul-was chatting with an old friend who was at a lull in her career, and mused that she had no idea what she was going to be doing for the forseeable future.
Grace is reported to have said to her friend..."How lucky you are!" with a wistful tone in her voice.

Regarding her friendship with both Giorgio and Roberta, I can't see how she can not have a wedding dress from them.
Colour: I'd go for sea green - like a nymph !
But I suspect we'll have to settle for white or cream.....

It's a Catholic wedding -- there's no way she's not wearing a shade of white.

Exactly. I don't find a year wait excessive for the wedding of a head of state, with his diary, the diary of those invited, and the planning of the wedding.
Also, don't forget the wedding will be a Catholic one, perhaps the wait is so they can get precana around Albert's schedule?
