Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia's Diamond Faberge Tiara is up for auction at Sotheby's.

The estate of Count Oscar Bernadotte of Wisborg, who passed away a few months ago, is auctioning off some historical items including this brooch said to have belonged to Queen Josefina of Sweden and Norway. After her death it was inherited by her son King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway, his son Prince Oscar Bernadotte, his daughter Elsa Cedergren, her brother Count Carl Bernadotte and then his son Oscar Bernadotte.*
Prince Oscar's wife, Princess Ebba is seen wearing the brooch on their gold wedding celebrations on March 5 1938.*
The brooch is made of gold and silver and 10 cm long. It has 9 ct diamonds set "à la trembleuse" and can be divided into three pieces. It was made by Court Jeweller Gustaf Möllenborg around 1860 and comes in a box together with a set of hair and brooch pins.*
The asking price is €14000-19000

Oh, sigh.
I'd love to own that brooch.

Did Queen Josefina receive the brooch as a wedding present?

According to the auction house the brooch was made around 1860 and Queen Josefina married in 1823. In fact she became a widow in 1859. Maybe she had it made for the festivities surrounding her son's coronation in the summer of 1860?

Sadly exhibits like this are the only tiara events in Monaco

The consort of the current sovereign Prince owns tiaras, but she normally misses state events where tiaras could be worn and, even in the rare occasions when she did attend, she chose not to wear a diadem. I wonder why.

The Wedding Locket is stunning :previous:

I believe belongs to Pss M. Gabrielle of Italy, she has worn it as a necklace on two occassions at least.

The princess had a jewelry collection that was larger than that of the Belgian Queen. Much of it has been auctioned of already.

Maria Gabriella di Savoia ? How did an Aosta heirloom end with her? She is no descendant of Maria Vittoria dal Pozzo della Cisterna ? Maybe it was inherited or discreetly bought by the Savoia branch from their Aosta cousins ?

It is a fa-bu-lous diadem.

Yes somehwhere it was statedthat King Umberto II. bought it from the Aosta-branch at some point.

That wouldn't be too hard ;)

The jewellery collection of the Belgian Queen is not really a high bar, is it? ?

To be fair, part of that collection actually came from Belgium, via her mother. The Belgian kings could have bought back some of the pieces from the Savoys, but showed no interest apparently.

Prince Charles of the Belgians , Count of Flandres gave his great Fabergé/leuchtenberg tiara to his Sister Marie José who never wore it because she was to old.
Princess Maria Gabriella sold it and sold other belgian jewels such as the Countess of Flanders small tiara. It was often said from a Noble Family.

Back to the Belgian Royals , they never bought their family jewels during Auctions. King Baudouin had the buy Queen Elisabeth Cartier tiara !
I never understood why the Queen gave the tiara to Leopold and not to the Reigning Queen ?

Princess Mathilde received a tiara from the Belgian Nobility. Great ;
But Princess Claire received nothing so King Albert II had to buy a tiara. AN Auction at that time sold a royal tiara , but he said : It is too expensive. But he bought a very expensive Boat Alpa , one year later a bigger one and now it is to sale for more then half of the Price .

The Belgians seem to have made some very silly decisions regarding the family jewels are now worse off than some of the non reigning houses on the jewel front.

Very fair. I only hope the Queen has been quielty buying more jewels so that the Crown Princess has a reasonable jewel box as and when she starts to perform royal duties.
