My thoughts on the tiara are that the following scenario is a strong possibility:

Way back before Beatrice was even engaged, she might have imagined herself wearing her mother's tiara on her own wedding day. However, besides any personal style choices to reject it, there are two reasons why the notion might have been shelved. One is that the tiara is associated with a marriage that ended in a high profile divorce and her mother's scandalous behaviour, which would be replayed in the press alongside her wedding photos. The second reason is of course Andrew's problems so again, she wouldn't want her own wedding photos to fuel more excuses for the press to feature her father.

I suspect HMQs advisers had worked this out long ago and the suggestion of HMQ's own wedding tiara was made (alongside a choice of others). The possible disappointment of not wearing her own mother's tiara would be alleviated by wearing Granny's.

HM is said to be very close to her granddaughters. I don't think the suggestion came from any adviser, but rather from the Queen herself in a public show of support for Beatrice given the adverse circumstances.

I could see the York tiara being discreetly sold to a buyer who wouldn't blab it everywhere. I could also see both her daughters choosing other tiaras from a selection according to personal taste and sentiment about wearing her grandmother's tiara whilst she's still alive to see it. Also to say that even though this is a wedding under different circumstances it is no less special and "Royal".

It does certainly look much better to have side by side photos of Beatrice and her grandmother or a line up of 5 generations wearing it and stories about that than to have pictures of Sarah and even more tales of how that marriage ended but I'm not sure that would have stopped them if it was available and important to her to wear it.

Nothing stops the girls from wearing Sarah's tiara at some stage in the future, possibly at future coronations. It has often been suggested that ladies of the family wear tiara's for the dinner on Christmas eve at Sandringham, perhaps that may be a chance for either of B or E to wear Sarah's tiara, if they have not already done so.

Honestly the York tiara was bought for Sarah and has no other royal history. It does not compare in any way to the tiaras worn by both her daughters on their respective wedding days.

I cannot imagine a situation where Sarah was not allowed to keep her tiara in the divorce and if that's true, you can be sure it has long been disposed off to generate cash.

Call me optimistic if you want, but I expect Beatrice and Eugenie to start attending state dinners and wear tiaras ( as other married women in the UK do) at those events. I don’t see why they would not be invited now that Harry, Meghan and possibly Andrew are out of the picture. Prince and Princess Michael are not working royals and they attend quite often.

.

But this is also the case for the Greville emerald kokoshnik. Priness Eugenie was the first member of the Royal family to wear it after they had almost 80 years in their vaults.

Not the same , I believe. Even though it had not been worn before, the Greville was bequeathed to the late Queen Mother , so it had a royal history in the sense of having formally belonged to a former Queen.

The York tiara never belonged to Queen Elizabeth II or any other Windsor women. It is in the same category as the Spencer or the Shand tiaras, which have been worn by wives of British princes , but do not count as British Royal tiaras.

I suspect Beatrice wore a family tiara to signify her status as a princess of the blood.

The idea that single ladies don't wear tiaras is wrong. We saw both Anne and Margaret wearing them before marriage. The York girls have attended 1 state dinner in the past. It's normally not in their sphere of things they do. I would be surprised if either of them start doing that on any sort of annual basis.

In the near future I agree, they are unlikely to attend, but once the Queen’s cousins are no longer available - perhaps during their Uncle’s reign and more probably during William’s, I expect them to be called on to attend state dinners. Perhaps then we’ll finally see the York tiara again, which I think is a very pretty piece.
It was a treat to see Queen Mary’s fringe tiara on a royal bride.

How old was Princess Anne when she wore her first tiara?
How old was Princess Margaret when she wore her first tiara?

Princess Margaret certainly wore a tiara in 1953 - to the Queen's Coronation Princess Margaret at Coronation, 1953 | The Royal Watcher. She was 22 at the time and it was 8 years before her own wedding.

She also wore the Scroll tiara to a State Banquet in 1954. Princess Anne wore the same tiara to an event in 1970 when she was just 19 (the tour mentioned in this link was in April-May ... I saw Anne on this tour so know when it happened and she didn't turn 20 until August). The images of Margaret and Anne are at the bottom of the list https://people.com/celebrity/kate-middleton-princess-tiaras/ Anne didn't marry until 1973.

They may have worn them earlier but these are the first I can find.

I too think that it is wrong that single ladies cannot wear tiaras and that single royal princesses can. The Queen has an unmarried lady in waiting, The Hon Mary Morrison, and I cannot remember if I've ever seen a photograph of her wearing a tiara.

It may be that the Hon Mary Morrison doesn't have a family tiara to wear. Not all families have them.

Princess Margaret wore a tiara in 1948 when she attended the inauguration of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. As she had just turned 18 this is likely the earliest she wore one.

The first time I’ve found Princess Anne wear a tiara was at the State Opening of Parliament in 1967 when she was seventeen years old.

It’s certainly not true that you have to be married to wear a tiara. Princess Margaret, Princess Alexandra, Princess Anne, etc. have all worn tiaras before they were married.

So happy for the couple. Beatrice looked stunning the Fringe, despite it overwhelmed her a bit (to me).

I think the York Tiara is in the possession of the Duchess, and it will be used at future coronations by her, maybe along with the diamond demi-parure. If it were auctioned, we would have known.
Also, IMO the York tiara wasn’t used because of the underlying meanings it can convey. So it was very wise to wear something else.

To me, The Princess Royal lent her daughters-in-law her personal tiaras because the brides wouldn’t have become members of The Royal Family. So, it was “inappropriate” to have them wear HM’s tiaras, worn by previous queens. Meanwhile, Eugenie and Beatrice are princesses of the blood royal, so it’s fitting they borrowed their tiaras from The Queen, their Grandma.

Yes, but in the very last few years, we saw Princess Beatrice tiara-less at a Buckingham Palace event that saw other princesses wearing tiaras. So, I agree with you, but maybe Alexandra, Margaret and Anne had an official role and function at such events as working royals, despite being unmarried at the time.

The Princess Royal only has one daughter-in-law (Autumn Phillips). Her daughter Zara is of course HMQ's granddaughter and if she hadn't already had access to suitable/desirable tiaras via her mother, I can't imagine HMQ denying her the loan of one from her own collection. Given that Princess Anne wore her own mother's wedding tiara at her wedding, I'd wager that if Zara had wanted to wear it too, as a continuation of mother/daughter/granddaughter, the request would have been granted.

I 100% agree, I think Zara choose the Greek meander tiara in part because it has its own grandmother/mother/daughter link with Princess Alice, Princess Anne and Zara. That said I can not for one moment believe if Zara had wanted to wear the same tiara as her mother and grandmother at their weddings she would have been denied.

The only thing Beatrice wearing this tiara for her wedding makes me ask is - is there another unseen tiara or two hiding in the vaults she could of worn?

( I think Zara chose the Greek Meander because she liked it and suited her, not because she had nothing else to wear. But for Autumn, it was obvious she had no access to HMs Vaults. What I meant is that maybe such a big tiara (The Fringe) was less appropriate on a not-titled woman (Zara) who had a private low-key wedding. Just my thought. )

Beatrice could have worn other unseen tiaras for sure, if with “unseen” you mean “never worn in the last decades”. The Fringe had to be a choice of Beatrice.. other recent wedding tiaras excluded, there were still some all-diamond tiaras not recently worn.

I doubt it was auctioned, but I think it was sold privately when Fergie was in desperate need of cash (possibly to the Saudis, or other wealthy individuals).

Yes I think it is most unlikely that Fergie still has it, she would have sold it privately. and she's always short of cash...

The queen has remained friendly with Sarah, possibly because of Andrew, possibly because she wants to stay in touch with the mother of her grandchildren.. but i think it will be in private from now on, just as Andrew's leading a private life..

Well she’s on the socials everyday doing a lot of charitable work. Not really private. She’s reestablishing her reputation.

Also in 2011 she was pictured with the diamond Demi-parure when she hit the bottom in 2009-2010. So I believe she still has it. For the tiara, who knows. I believe she has it, but has no occasion to wear it.. We’ll see in the future...
however we’re going off topic.

I think the reason for the dress and tiara is the queen wants to show her support for Bea especially after all the problems her father is having. I know we're all supposed to stand six feet away from each other but that's the only thing I though odd about the wedding - the way the picture looked with them so far apart.

:previous: Two fold intention. 1. Emphasize they were following covid rues.

2. The image of the queen and Philip watching the couple leave the church. Like the old days when you'd crowd on the steps of the church and through rice as the couple leave (some still do).

Any source?

I don't think that selling of such tiara would go unnoticed.

No, I dont have a source.. and I said "I think". Sarah would have sold the tiara discreetly, perhaps it was even broken up, so there's not likely to be any information about it
