Hello, I just joined. I can trace my line back to William the Conqueror, but I expect a lot of people can! There are Lords and Ladies scattered through the family tree, so I want to do some research if possible. Queen Adelaide visited my GGGGrandfathers home in Madeira and My GGGrandmother and her sisters always visited court when they went back to England, so I want to find out more.

Hello Churton. Welcome, fellow Aussie. Hope you enjoy it here. I didn't know Queen Adelaide had visited Madeira! In those days it was a place for wealthy people to visit if they had poor health especially chest complaints, due to its climate, so I wonder if she wasn't feeling well.

"In 1847 Queen Adelaide was advised as a last
resource to try the climate of Madeira for her
health. She was now a complete invalid, and
she led an absolutely retired life at the villa
Quinta des Augustrias in Funchal. Her charities
did not, however, cease. On January 4th, 1848,
she presented the Civil Governor of Madeira
with 100 to be used for the help of the poor,
and on February 12th, 1849, she offered a liberal
donation to the Governor, through the British
Consul, Mr. Veitch, for opening and making a
road from Ribeiro Sacco to Camaro de Lobos

this is from The life and times of Queen Adelaide
