My name is Kevin Metcalf. I hope this site will help solve a mystery from my Mother's family. Her name was Dorothy Mandernach, descendent of Edward (Big Ed) Mandernach. One of Edward's daughters, Elizabeth DOB 2/6/1822 was born in Berlin. She married Andrew Thom, born in Baden before 1857. I have a obituary for her that says she was a cousin of the late Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria and that she gave up her claim to royalty when she married Andrew Thom, a commoner. This backs up a story my mother told when I was a child...that her family name, Mandernach, was changed by the family from Metternich because Prince von Metternich was very unpopular in America. I have been trying to find this Metternich/Mandernach link as well as researching this obituary claim to Hapsburg Royalty. Perhaps there is someone in this forum who might point me in the right direction????
