I believe if the child is born on U.S. soil it automatically has citizenship.

Yes they are automatically US citizens. But if I'm not mistaken they also gain citizenship of the country that their parents are from as well. That happened to my friend's brother. But at the age of 18 he had to choose which country he wanted to be a citizen of.

But Marie Chantal is US citizen, isn't she??? If yes, her children are not automatically US citizens?
 
My two older children were born in California. Their father is an American, so they both have American passports and also Brazilian, from my side.

I believe that Marie Chantal has dual citizenship in the US and the UK. She was born in Hong Kong, during the time that it was part of the UK, and her entire family has been living in London for a while. I know that Pavlos is a UK citizen and probably also has dual citizenship in the US.
 
MC has dual citizenship US & British. Pavlos has a Danish passport. I do not know how difficult it is for someone to obtain a British passport but in the US if one is born here, becomes a US citizen automatically.
 
I always thought that a child automatically had the same citizenship status as their parents

I believe she was born in London and raised in Hong Kong for a great deal of her childhood. I don't know why Pavlos would have dual citizenship in the US.
 
I did not say that Pavlos has dual citizenship. Pavlos cannot obtain a Greek passport because of the last name issue. He has a Danish passport. Since their little boy was born in the US , he will become a US citizen,automatically, regardless of his parents' citizen status in the US or any other country.

I have a friend who is Orthodox and she said the baby is usually baptized within 40 days after birth. But I know some Orthodox children who were not baptized until a year after birth so who knows.

Their baptismal ceremonies are very elaborate and beautiful.

CD They get immersed in water 3 times (hence baptised) it is mighty difficult to grab a 40 day old baby by the underarms and dip it three times in the Holy water. G O babies are usually get baptised around 9 months or so.
I just baptised a baby 11 months old who almost kept a conversation going during the ceremony..LOL

Bob Miller renounced his US citizenship in the 60s so MC might not be a US citizen at all since neither of her parents were US citizens at the time of her birth and she was born in the UK. MC only lived in the US for 15 years before moving to London so she has spent less than half of her life in the US.

I agree. There would be no reason for Pavlos to be a dual citizen of the US.

Because the Brussels Convention states that European citizens can travel at any state of the European Union without a passport, for this reason Constatino can travel to Greece with a Danish passport.
But if he had the passport of the U.S.,Greece can prevent it from entering its territory
I think that Paul has Danish citizenship, so he travel to Greece without problems.

I can't get the link to open. I am having some server problems. Did the article give any insight as to why she gave birth in L.A.? Was it simply for medical reasons or was it more to do with the opening of a new Marie Chantal shop?

King Constantine cannot obtain a US passport even if he wanted one. I have a US passport and get in and out of Greece with no problems.

I think that Paul has Danish citizenship, so he travel to Greece without problems.

Pavlos has a Danish passport given to the family when they were refused Greek passports.
The issue of the GRF entering Greece with no problems has been resolved years ago. The issue of them being able to regain their Greek citizenship is in limbo because of the insistene of the Greek government that they adopt a last name and their refusal to do so.

But Mariy Olympis was younger at ther christening. I think it took place in December 1996 around 4-5 months after her birth. And also the christening of Pavlos and Alexia took place not to long after theri birth.

In the Orthodox tradition you baptize a chid the first Summer after it's birth. So depending on it's date of birth, a baby could be 10 or 12 months old on his baptism. I believe that it was done for health reason, because the baby is fully immerged into water, and during winter it was a risk to get very sick.

Bu in any case they avoid the first 40 days also for health reasons, in the past the first 40 days of a babie's life were considered very delicates to get sick, antiobiotick did not exist.

All these traditions now have not real reason, because churches are heaten and antibioticks exist, so parents choose just a suitable period, that's it.

But in any case a summer period in more nice.

The 9 month or so range is not cast in stone. I was referring to generally what is the average age to have a baby naked immersed in water.
With regard to the royals,since calendars are most of the times are filled as far as a year ahead of time, a parent who wants a royal to be the Godparent has to schedule the baptism of their baby around those schedules.
Having said that, remember that Pavlos was born a month after the Junta took over and the young Monarchs wanted some reminder to the Greek nation of what hopes for the future the baby diadoch's birth brought. I have photos of him resting on that pillow on his mother's lap. These celebrations were the swan song of the GRF. sad to say.
Lastly with regards to the royals, I am sure they are getting different accomodations than us mere mortals, however the Church would never accept a non Greek Orthodox to baptise a G.O child. Therefore when I read that Prince Charles or Prince WIlliam are Godparents to Pavlos' children, this means they stood next to the GO Godparents as witnesses but not Godparents.

A US citizen can go to Greece at anytime. There is nothing preventing it. If a child is born on US soil it is automatically given US citizenship even if the parents are another nationality. There is a big effort to change this. If a child is born abroad, one of the parents must be a US citizen to obtain citizenship. Also, the child's birth must be registered with the nearest embassy or consulate in order to get citizenship. If you do not register your child they will not have citizenship.

I agree with many others I think she went to the US for medical care. The specialists who are top in their field are often in the US.
 
Congrats to the royal family I was hoping that the crown princely would have
a girl instead they have another boy I am happy that mom and the baby is
doing fine.

The name was published in an article on WWD.com. If you scroll through the thread about possible baby names for Marie-Chantal's baby, you will find the link to the article. I don't know why the name is not listed on the GRF's website. Perhaps they are waiting for the christening.

And wasn't there a British TV show which referred to Prince Philip as "Stavros"?

Maybe they had one of those baby books, "2001 Bad Greek Baby Names"!
 
Is it just me or does the name not flow as well as the baby's siblings names. Aristidis Stavros just doesn't roll off the tongue as well?
