Splendours of Monaco Palace: an exclusive visit Splendours of Monaco Palace: an exclusive visit
The Red Salon and the York Chamber
Originally called the Royal chamber, it changed name after an event that upset the life at the Palace at the end of the XVIIIth Century. During the summer 1767, Prince Edouard-Auguste, duke of York, who was sailing from Marseille to Genoa stopped at the Rock, but fell sick. And so he was transported to this very chamber. Despite all the efforts done by doctors called to his bedside, he died a few days later. Prince Honore III then transformed the chamber in an ardent chapel, before having the corpse of this kin prince solemnly escorted and shipped back to Great Britain. The chamber, brightly set in its red wall fabric, keeps alive the souvenir of this sorrowful event. In this very chamber we can find sculptures, and more precisely busts of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace's children. The painting attributed to the painters studio of Pierre Gobert probably represents Marie de Lorraine (experts emit doubts they suggest it to be her daughter Louise Hippolyte). It dates from the end of Louis XIV era or the beginning of the Regency.

TBHRC, thank you for the lovely photos of the Palace!!!
Does anyone know if, during the time of year when the Palace is closed to the public, if it ever opens by appointment only?

the palace of monaco is the smallest royal palace in europe. My guess is that its maybe not even half of buckingham palace..remember that it was built as a fortress originally..

Would one of the moderators reading this please delete my post on 09-24-05 4:48 since its a duplicate of the post tbhrc has made. The new program wont allow me to edit. Due to the holidays I didn't want to bother one of you with a PM. Then delete this one. Thank you.

Well, we know the Casiraghi Trio, Stephanie, and Caro all live in Paris pretty much full time. It's hard to imagine, but Prince Albert rambles around the palace and grounds alone (can't imagine he's brought his son there) - there is a beautiful pool, but how often is it in use? Hopefully, he won't wait much longer - I just find it truly hard to believe that he cannot find a woman worthy of more than a one-night stand....what does that say about him?

At the avenment in JUly they had a gardenparty around the pool. We didn't see him much at the beach this year (probably lack of time), so he might have used the pool for a dip in the summer. He also has a lot of friends here whom he invites around (though I think he prefers to invite them to La turbie) and there is of course Steph with her kids.

You could be right, too - maybe the Palais is used more for formal events and his vacation home(s) is/are used for day-to-day living; but, I would imagine that he is required to spend maybe 80% of his time in Monaco at the Palais for various meetings, formal events, meetings w/other heads of state, etc....who knows....

Albert and Rainier use to have lunch by the pool. Back then Albert would have salad and fish. I am going to post a response in another thread regarding the last part of your post since its off topic and don't want to get in trouble for it.

Here you can see some of the Palace area around the 'Appartements Privées). Photos are taken from very far when the family met for Easter celebrations in 2000. You can see Steph with Camille, Caro with Alex, Louis ( in white) and Pauline, Albert with Pierre ... Alberts red car...
