It was often said that Grace didn't like driving at all, infact she always used cars with a driver; actually I don't know if Lizanne had ever said such a thing...It is said, and I don't know if this is true, that on the day of the accident she was driving because the back seats of the car were occupied by a dress she had to wear at a party; so the driver was left home, Steph couldn't drive as she had no driving licence and Grace had to...Anyway don't take this for granted as there are a number of rumors going around about that fatal morning!
The only think I'd like to add is about the question Who was driving? I've been on the road where they had the accident and I can tell you that only someone really crazy would let a person without a driving licence drive there...it's a pretty scary road I can assure, and Grace should have been a fool to let Steph "practice" there.
Sorry for the pretty long answer, kisses

People - I have no idea where the thread went about Princess Grace being the topic on Larry King Live on Wednesday, Sept. 3. So I'm reposting. Here's a link to the transcript for those who missed it.

I want to be sure people can read this if they missed it. This board has changed a lot in the past few weeks, so pardon the double post, but I think the post with the transcript got deleted.

Lyonaisse, I agree, Albert seems to have such gentlemanly manners. :flower: The panel was a very dull -_- The panels (LKL) on the British royals can be dull too. Nobody wants to say anything bad or gossipy.

1982: Hollywood princess dead
Princess Grace of Monaco has died of the injuries she sustained in a car crash near Monte Carlo yesterday.
The Hollywood actress Grace Kelly - who starred in the Alfred Hitchcock hits Dial M for Murder and Rear Window -suffered a brain haemorrhage.

A statement issued by the royal palace said she died at 2130 GMT after her conditioned worsened throughout the morning and become irreversible by the afternoon.

It also said the former film star's husband, Monaco's head of state Prince Rainier, and her three children were at her bedside when she died.

The US-born princess' youngest daughter Stephanie was in the car at the time of the accident, but suffered only light bruising.

Brake failure

The news of her death was unexpected as previous reports from the palace had indicated that despite broken ribs, leg and collarbone she was in a stable condition.

The Monaco royal family also released an account of yesterday's accident and said the princess had lost control of the car when the brakes failed.

After leaving the road her 10-year-old Rover tumbled 100 ft (30.5 m) down a ravine, turning over several times before coming to rest in a garden.

But a witness who was driving behind the two princess said the car began zigzagging erratically some time before the crash happened.

Two engineers from British Leyland are on their way to Monte Carlo to examine the wreckage.

BBC's Philip Short: "Exactly how the accident occurred is still something of a mystery" - Broadcast 15 Sep 1982

Wonderful photo, nbfhyl1979! Where did you get it from??

Princess Grace of Monaco and her children, Albert, 5, and Caroline, 6, who hugs dolls, board a Paris-bound plane at Idlewood on their way home after a six-week visit to the U.S. She and her husband, Prince Ranier (who left last Friday) visited with the Princess's parents and opened the Monaco Pavilion at the Vacation and Travel Show at Philadelphia. They will spend a few days in Paris and then return to Monaco. "It was a wonderful visit and we had a lovely time," said Princess Grace. Asked if she expected another heir, she replied: "If I were, I wouldn't be here."

Does Princess Grace See Shape Of Things To Come?? Paris, France: Maybe a psychologist could read somety something into the sidelong glance Princess Grace (Nee Kelly) is giving this baby carriage as she strolls in the Bois de Bologne, Paris, with her husband, Prince Rainier on Monaco. Anyway, regardless of the glance, Princess Grace gracefully dodged questions about a possible visit from the stork when she arrived in the French capital with Rainier on a shopping trip. When the question was put, Princess Grace blushed and replied gently: "I'm afraid we didn't start the rumors."

Grace looked sufficiently bundled up for Quebec weather in the pictures sandee posted!

And that last picture of Grace with a young Caroline -- how much Charlotte resembles her mother now!

Those truly are haunting pictures of Grace ...where did u find them Julia? Thankyou for posting them, I have never seen these before.

Hi Sandee, :)

These photos are very ethereal and haunting. "Haunting" seems to be the only word appropriate for them. At least for me.

The photos are from two books. One is from John Glatt's book on the Grimaldis and the other is from "Grace Kelly: American Princess" by Elizabeth Gillen Surcouf. There is a third image from this series that I will post later that was taken by Howell Conant for an article in a 1957 issue of Cosmopolitan.

I am trying to find that dress with a lot of flowes/veggies on it... can someone help me?

Josefine I think you're looking for the dress she wore when she met Prince Rainier at the Palace in 1955. She had a flower wreath on her head on that ocassion too.

The cabbage rose dress...yes, there are pics of that dress on earlier pages in this thread. :)

Unfortunately, I don't think it was ever captured in color. The only pics I have seen of it are B&W.

there was a color pictures with princess grace at this forum
was it a other dress she wore then with big flowers or weggies on it.

Grace could pull almost anything off, couldn't she??

A great photo from Town & Country...

Such beautiful pictures montecarlo and Dennism!

Grace always looked so ravishing and serene no matter what the circumstance or how casual she was dressed.

Alexandria: Such beautiful pictures montecarlo and Dennism! Grace always looked so ravishing and serene no matter what the circumstance or how casual she was dressed.

Monte Carlo: You're welcome Alexandria! Grace was and still is the epitome of beauty and elegance. I miss her so much. I hope I have a daughter so that I can name her after Gracie.

Princess Grace was definetely the epitome of beauty and elegance of the 20th Century ;)
