I hope P. Caroline will attend this year's celebrations of Sainte Devote. The past couple of years, P. Albert had none of his sisters with him on such a day and, to me, he was the true image of loneliness...

I don't agree with PA being "lonely" on these occasions. He is the Head of State and cuts a statesman-like figure. Apart from National Day, Sainte-Dévote is the second state occasion when the Archbishop, the whole government etc. turn out in force.
The whole of Monaco enjoys the occasion because it is less militaristic than National Day, and burning a boat is always great fun!

I have to agree with Lazuli---- Rainier III knew image was everything that is why he got married and he and Grace produced a modern Monaco - modern/glamourous royal family to Eurpoe and the world where they could be taken seriously....
I do like that the fact in Albert reign he has downplayed the " casino" -I think even Rainier started this, also--- It seems to me that Monaco has taken more of executive business like air-----BTW- i saw that the casino will be closed for 6 months for renovation, later this year!
In retrospect if Albert had married and sire children legally- the Caroline problem ( marriage) would be just a whisper. The Saint Devote always been been a family affair under Rainier. That pic of him alone on the balcony- the symbolic tones is that this is a man that is very alone. Could u imagine that Caro and Steph told Rainier that they were busy and coudnt be bothered for the Devote celebrations-- I shudder the thought! Albert could not even bring his extended family together! I applaud the green prince! The image prince or his advisors need a good waking UP!

I too disagree that PA presents the "lonely" pic to St Devote or elsewhere.
Many times thru the years Pss. Grace attended religious outings without Ranier by her side. St Devote is part of Monaco history & PA and the bishop don't need to have the 'whole crowd' there to make this tradition a noteworthy affair!

I'm talking about the royal family family's IMAGE to the world..... what other royal head is officiating royal events alone and @ home! Must you remember Monaco is a small place there is no aristocracy-- surely three people can get together for 4 or 5 evenings a year!
I dont know how you fellow Grimadis watchers feel -- it seems like the royal family of Monaco is no more- yes Caro and Steph and their chiildren -- but I mean a centralized royal family like every royal family has-- Prince- Princess--- and siblings...... Seem like to be me that Rainier put his money on the wrong heir

hee too funny wrong heir!?! bite your tongue!! It seems Pa is the right heir for the right time! Just because Pa doesn't live his life at the speed that the general globe thinks it should be lived; doesn't mean he isn't doing things right haa!
PA meets an incredibly huge amount of people everyday when it occurs more than likely he will make it happen!

Paroisse de Sainte Dévote - Principauté de Monaco
The Parish of Sainte Dévote started a new website in January 2009, but there is still a lot missing - "Page en construction"....
I'm a bit perplexed as to why they haven't got on with it - they've had a year....

There is a Wikipedia article on Sainte Dévote, but it's in French:
Sainte Dévote - Wikipédia
And another site about Santa Divota, mainly about Corsica where she was born - here she is described as "the holy patroness of Corsica":

Tuesday, January 26th:
6.15h at Port Hercule - Burning of a boat, followed at 6.30 by the Procession for Sainte Dévote from Avenue Président J.F.Kennedy
Wednesday, January 27th:
9.45 am, Monaco Cathedral:
The Feast of Sainte Dévote, the Patron Saint and Protector of the Princely Family and the Diocese of Monaco.
Welcoming the relics of the Saint by the clergy and by the Archiconfrérie de la Miséricorde.
Followed by a Pontifical Mass at 10 am, and a street Procession.
The evening concludes with fireworks - of course!
P.S. I've just checked, and the DVD is still available - someone from Germany requested one and got it on Jan. 18th.
P.P.S:
There is also one copy of the DVD on French eBay. The seller got a good deal - 15 Euro for an item that cost him nothing!

The writer and civil engineer Louis Notari (1879-1961) wrote a book about Sainte Dévote:
"A legenda de Santa Devota" - in 1927
He was the first writer to have published books in the Monégasque language, and he contributed to the ongoing "success" of the Sainte Dévote story.
He also wrote the National Anthem of Monaco in 1931.
Rainier III requested to have Notari's "Campanin de San Niculau" played at his funeral in 2005.

Named after him is the Library and a street, and Monaco's webcam is named after him; as an engineer he would have appreciated it, I think....

pa is the statesman and is capable to handle the St.Devote without assistance of any kind.It is up to him to call in one of his sisters or in fact to marry and have his consort come to his side. until such times we should enjoy what the Prince can manage himself.
