Thanks for the pics, you know I hoped that around the time the moruning period for Prince Rainier ended in July the family would have done a photosession like this again maybe in Monaco or Marchais.

In the last few years of Rainier's life, he seemed to do his hunting in Spain. I remember in 2002 when Caroline brought Andrea and Pierre along for the hunting, but it was in Spain, not Marchais. It seems to have been many, many years since Caroline took her kids to Marchais. This Marchais thread has given me a great idea for a fanfic.

You know, the more photos I see of this estate, the more it reminds me of my possibly still existent, modest apartment in Baton Rouge. OH, RIGHT! I WISH!

I think people that grow up in places like that feel comfortable in them because it's what they know. It feels cozy and safe to them. I remember Diana, Princess of Wales once said that she felt uncomfortable in her friends' low-ceiling homes because she was so accustomed to her high-ceilinged mansions!

Does anybody know who occupies this estates since the family hardly ever visits anymore?
I am not familiar with the real estates laws in France/Monaco. I wonder what it cost to maintain an estate of this size. This is a gorgeous piece of property and I am sure it cost a fortune to upkeep. Lovely photos!

I suppose they have household staff for their estates (this one and Roc Agel - I'm not sure if they have others). From what I remember, this estate came into their family in the 19th century. It's six times the size of Monaco! Yes, it's very beautiful. Too bad they don't go there more often!

This is such a lovely picture of the siblings, Lady MacAlpine! :) I have never seen this before, many thanks! And I have finally seen an indoor photo of Marchais. They also have another lovely shot with Prince Rainier, on the same day . They were all sitting next to each other and each person was holding another's arm or hand or hugging the next person. From Corbis, too, I think.

I remember that Life magazine ran these pictures (of the family on the bench together and Albert on his motorcycle), probably in 1982 to mark the first anniversary of Grace's death.
I wonder if Caroline had met Casiraghi yet.

Thanks LadyMac. I thought it was more of a chateau. Now I can't find the picture of Albert and Pierre getting out of the car to try and see if it's the same place. The picture of Albert and Pierre looked like it was closer to a main street where the photographers could get a good shot. In order to do that at the entrance of the chateau, they would have to have been invited onto the property unless they had a very strong telephoto lens.
