The Swedish prince Daniel noted that the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. Prince Constantijn had a nice theory about that.
The two princes are Wednesday in Amsterdam to speak about the position of new companies in the Netherlands and Sweden. They talk about how the government can help them and encourage them to grow. They also discuss the differences between Swedish entrepreneurial culture and those of the Netherlands.

Princess Laurentien opened the congress of the Dutch Association for Pediatrics in Papendal (Arnhem) on June 13 and held a speech about child emancipation by children's councils.

A solution should be found for the asylum children Lili and Howick. This was what Princess Laurentien said on Radio 5 during the broadcast of Jeroen van Inkel this morning.

The Council of State decided last month that the asylum application of the mother and the children was rightly rejected. Lili and Howick came to the Netherlands in May 2008 and grew up here. They do not speak Armenian. According to the government, however, they are not entitled to a residence permit because Armenia would be a safe country.

Princess Laurentien hopes for a solution for Lili and Howick

I suppose one could argue that a solution was reached, namely in the verdict of the judge. Although an awful verdict for the children themselves of course.

The princess fortunately stayed sufficiently vague in her comments, so that will keep her out of political trouble.

The problem is that by going in appeal, and in appeal, and in appeal against refusals, the request to obtain a permanent status runs for years and years. Meaning that children become more Dutch because all these years they live here. Armenia is not war-torn or a dictatorship. So allowing the children to stay is a signal to all applicants from "safe countries" that stretching procedures as long as possible works in their advantage.

After all: if the two children are allowed to stay, isn't it inhuman to keep them separated from their mother? Result: the mother will be granted permission too. Quod Erat Demonstrandum: using your children as pawns will help you.

That is what the Government wants to avoid. Symbols are strong. When Spain allowed the Aquarius to embark in a Spanish port, it was a signal and since then the trafficking of migrants has taken the route to Spain, putting the new minority government over there under pressure.

Princess Laurentien was on the edge. Vague enough but I preferred her to say nothing at all.

On November 1 Princess Laurentien attended the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Dutch magazine Margriet in Amsterdam including the opening of the portrait exhibition "Just tough":

'just cool' would probably a more accurate translation of 'gewoon stoer' (although any translation looses parts of the meaning in Dutch) in this case :flowers:

:previous:

Thanks! "Tough" is one of the English words that was imported into the German language but with a wider range of meanings. The German "tough" is accurate, the English one indeed not quite so..?

On November 3 Princess Laurentien was invited as a special guest at the finals for the new new Child Ambassadors in Amersfoort:
