Princess Kiko visited a medical facility for children and attended a national meeting of the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association in Sapporo today, May 18:

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko were congratulated on their daughter’s engagement plans during public service. Princess Kiko is in Hokkaido Prefecture May 18-19.

Prince Akishino is in Kobe May 18-19 for the Port of Kobe’s 150th anniversary. He visited RIKEN Computer Science Research Organization on Thursday.

Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko and Princess Mako attended an exhibition at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo on May 22.

It was Princess Mako's first public appearance for an official duty since the news about her impending engagement:

Prince Akishino visited Kochi Prefecture May 23-24 to attend the general assembly of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, where he is president. He also visited the Kochi Castle History Museum and its storage depot.

On June 1st, the IHA announced Princess Kiko has been appointed special researcher at Ochanomizu University’s Human Development and Educational Research Institute. She has been studying health psychology at the university as an honorary special researcher of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science; she received a PhD from Ochanomizu in 2013. In the future, she plans to participate in a research project on human development science and health science.

From June 3-4th, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko visited Fukuoka to attend the 70th anniversary of the Japan Deaf Federation and the 65th National Assembly of the Deaf.

The IHA is considering late September to early October for Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko’s official visit to Chile. The estimated 10-day visit marks the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Princess Akiko of Mikasa made the last official visit to Chile in 2013.

On June 28th, Princess Kiko and Princess Mako met with Japan's representatives to the Deaflympics. They offered encouragements in sign language. Turkey is hosting the 23rd Summer Deaflympics July 18-30th; Japan's 108 players will participate in 11 competitions.

On July 11th, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko attended the 19th Japan Water Prize at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Prince Akishino's greeting included sympathies to rain damage and loss of life in Kyushu.

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko visited Kobe July 18-19 for Marine Festa Kobe. They visited the training sailing ship Kaiwo Maru at Port of Kobe on July 18th. The next day, they attended the 150th anniversary of the opening of Kobe Port. Prince Akishino's greeting included condolences to victims and wishes of prompt recovery in northern Kyushu.

Prince Akishino and Princess Kako were in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, today, July 30. They viewed an exhibition by students at Sendai Mediatheque, visited Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium and the Sendai 3/11 Memorial Community Centre where they viewed materials about the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake:

Also, they're visiting Miyagi Prefecture July 30 - August 1st for the 41st National High School Comprehensive Cultural Festival "Miyagi Sobun 2017."

On the 31st, they visited the prefecture's art museum. The opening ceremony is in the afternoon.

On August 1st, Prince Akishino and Princess Kako visited Tohoku History Museum to see exhibits of the 41st All Japan High School Cultural Festival, and attended a high school concert before returning to Tokyo.

IHA also announced Prince Akishino and Princess Mako will visit Hungary privately in August. Prince Akishino will visit 18-23rd and Mako will visit 19-23rd for farming research and museum visits.

On July 31st, Princess Kiko attended the Japan Science Foundation's "Special Researcher - RPD Research Exchange Meeting" at Meiji Memorial Hall in Minato Ward, Tokyo.

On August 10th, Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, and Prince Hisahito visited a traditional brush shop in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture. Prince Akishino has patronized the shop for many years. 15th generation owner Fujino Yunpei and his son Junichi explained brush material and process. The family’s vacationing in the Kosai district for a few days.

Prince Akishino departed for Hungary from Tokyo's Haneda airport today, August 18. He will be joined by his daughter Princess Mako there.

Japanese Prince Akishino left for Hungary on Friday on a private trip to conduct livestock research and will be joined by his daughter Princess Mako there ahead of her engagement announcement next month.

Prince Akishino, the younger son of the emperor, has made research on animals his lifetime work. He has long been interested in Hungary's livestock including a rare pig species.

During their stay there, the two will visit places such as a livestock farm and a museum. They will return home together next Wednesday.

It marks the third overseas trip for the father-daughter pair, the first being one that took them to Madagascar in 2007 and the second to Laos in 2010. On both occasions, the princess accompanied her father for his research there. The princess has been engaged in museum studies research.
