:previous: The Overseas Migration Museum, which is operated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), opened in 2002 and was renovated last year. The Crown Prince couple and Prince Hisahito arrived around 2:30pm, touring exhibits about immigration, Meiji era situation, and a special exhibition on Okinawa emigration.

Afterwards, they met 4 people, 2nd to 4th generation Japanese-Brazilians and Japanese-Argentines living in Japan. A 3rd-generation Japanese-Brazilian studying Shakuhachi, performed and gave Prince Hisahito a "天吹" type of Shakuhachi he made himself. Prince Hisahito missed school for this trip.

The three had their pictures taken in a special photo area where visitors can pretend to be immigrants felling trees. They also explored exhibits on the lives of Japanese expats around the world.

Prince Hisahito reportedly praised the museum’s videos and audio recordings for making the subjects easy to understand. At the end of the visit, the crown couple and their son had a chat with Japanese Brazilians living in Japan, among others.

On March 3rd, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko attended the 11th Japan Medical Association Akahige "Redbeard" Awards reception at the Palace Hotel Tokyo. The award honors doctors devoted to community medicine for a long time.

On March 10th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko attended the Great Tokyo Air Raid 78th anniversary memorial service at Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall in Sumida, Tokyo. About 100 people attended the scaled-down event as pandemic limits remain in place for now.

On March 18th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko met the Japanese delegation for the 10th International Abilympics at Akasaka East residence. 30 athletes will compete in 17 events, such as tailoring, dental technician, floral arrangements and computer programming, in Metz, France. The Abilympics is a work skill competition for people with disabilities.

The crown prince couple spoke to the team for about 45 minutes without masks considering ventilation and keeping a distance. When asked about struggles, an athlete mentioned the tools are different between France and Japan.

The first Abilympics was held in Tokyo in 1981 with then-Crown Prince Akihito as honorary president. The Akishino couple took over meeting Abilympics participants after the accession.

10th International Abilympics... I've never heard of this. Guess that's because I don't watch TV or read the paper. The competitors being called athletes is kind of interesting.
 
Akishino is NOT officially Crown Prince. He declined to be in that position when Naruhito succeeded the throne. Why he declined? Because if he assumed the role of Crown Prince he and his family cannot perform "official duties" as honorary president of various organizations that reward him or his family considerable sum of money for attending the congregations and making speeches, etc.
Most of their "official duties" as honorary are made by Michiko during his husband's time (1989-2019) because by accepting them as honorary makes it easier to get more subsidy from the government.
 
On April 11th, Crown Princess Kiko attended the 55th Aiiku Group Member National Convention at Meiji Kinenkan in Minato Ward, Tokyo. She is President of the Imperial Gift Foundation Boshi-Aiiku-kai.

On April 13th, the Imperial Household Agency announced Crown Prince Akishino was appointed honorary president of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.

Then-Crown Prince Akihito and Naruhito served as honorary president for 1970 Osaka Expo and 2005 Aichi Expo respectively.

On April 14th, Crown Prince Akishino attended the JFTD (Japan Florists' Telecommunication Delivery) 70th Anniversary Ceremony at Toshi Center Hotel in Chiyoda, Tokyo. JFTD's was founded to deliver flowers to remote areas. Its business line includes a service named "Hana Cupid" and currently has about 4,100 stores.

On April 14th, top Akishino family aide Takaharu Kachi reported the Crown Prince couple and Prince Hisahito visited the mountains of Kyushu during the prince’s spring break. It was a field survey for academic research and opportunities to meet people in that area and learn about relationships between nature, creatures and people.

Kachi refrained from further details such as specific dates and places, citing privacy. Prince Hisahito began his 2nd year of high school on the 11th.

On April 20th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko worshipped at the mausoleums of Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun at Musashi Imperial Graveyard in Hachioji, Tokyo. The couple reported their upcoming UK visit to attend the coronation of King Charles III.

The couple will visit the Imperial Palace Sanctuaries at a later date. Messengers will be dispatched to Emperor Jimmu's mausoleum in Nara Prefecture and Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture to report on the UK visit.

On April 25th Crown Princess Kiko visited in Kiyose, Tokyo related to tuberculosis activities. She is president of Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association.
- Municipal Kiyose Second Junior High School to observe students learning about TB treatment and ethics
- Japan BCG Research Institute to learn about its TB vaccine

In 1931, Tokyo Prefectural Kiyose Hospital opened as the first tuberculosis sanatorium in then-Kiyose Village. Crown Princess Kiko visited the local museum last April.

On May 1st, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visited Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako for customary greetings before traveling abroad. They will officially visit the UK May 4-7 to attend the coronation of King Charles III.

The Akishino couple entered the Imperial Palace before 2:30pm and spent about 40 minutes talking about the visit and other matters. They already greeted the Emeritus couple at Sento Imperial residence on April 27.

On April 1st, Crown Princess Kiko attended the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony of Tokyo English Lifeline (TELL) at the official residence of the Italian ambassador in Minato, Tokyo. The organizer is the certified NPO Tokyo English Life Telephone (TELL). Since April 1973, it has provided free mental health counseling in English to foreigners living in Japan.

On May 2nd, the Crown Prince couple visited the Imperial Palace Sanctuaries to report their UK visit. Crown Princess Kiko arrived earlier because women's clothing takes longer. Crown Prince Akishino entered the palace after 9am.

Crown Prince Akishino will vist Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture May 23-24 for the general meeting of the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums, where he serves as president. He will also visit Tokiwa Park before returning to Tokyo. It's his first visit to Yamaguchi Prefecture since the 2018 National Urban Greenery Festival.

On May 4th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko departed on a government plane from Haneda Airport shortly after 10am, beginning their 4-day UK visit to attend the coronation of King Charles III. Princess Kako and Prince Hisahito attended the send off at the Akishino residence around 8:30am.

Before the 5pm reception at Buckingham Palace on May 5, the Crown Prince couple will meet Japanese living in the UK at the Ambassador's residence and attend a luncheon hosted by the Ambassador and his wife.

Also, a staff member scheduled to accompany the couple has Covid-19 on May 3. The Crown Prince couple traveled as planned because they did not have close contact with the person (who will stay behind, of course) that would cause concern for infection, according to the Imperial Household Agency.

On May 4th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko arrived at London Stansted Airport in the afternoon (early morning May 5 JST). The couple went to Claridge's Hotel after greetings with the Japanese Ambassador, his wife and officials from the British Foreign Ministry.

On May 5th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko met 12 Japanese living in the UK for about 50 minutes at the Japanese ambassador's residence. Afterwards, the couple had luncheon hosted by the ambassador and his wife.

Jiji and Nikkansports report Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko also visited the Bulgarian Embassy in the morning and met former Tsar Simeon II and his wife Tsaritsa Margarita for 40 minutes. They met in 2009 during an official visit to Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania.

NTV reports the couple were worried about the earthquake in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture after being informed by their staff.

On May 6th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko departed from London Stansted Airport in the evening. They seem to be relieved to have successfully completed their first coronation event.

On May 7th, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko returned to Japan. Their government plane arrived at Haneda Airport shortly after 8pm and the couple were welcomed back by the British Ambassador and others.

And the hotel, where the Crown Prince and his wife stayed in London - if I would have been in charge, at least one of their seven flags out there would have been the one of Japan. Good customers and all, advertisement effect to tourists from Japan...

On May 24th, Crown Prince Akishino finished his 2-day visit to Yamaguchi Prefecture for the general meeting of Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums. He visited Tokiwa Zoo in Ube City and staff explained the popular white-handed gibbons attraction. The prince returned to Tokyo by plane.
