Why was Princess Astrid there? Was she presenting an award, or just there out of support for the Dutch Royal Family?

The parents of the girl were in the press quite frequently the last months and want to raise 1 million euros to give Sandra an experimental medicine that is not covered by the health insurance. Princess Astrid was invited by the mayor of Kruibeke, Mr. Antoine Dener, who was very happy that the princess accepted the invitation.

Princess Astrid spent two hours (!) with the Sandra and her parents.

I believe the pricness visited the cities of Genk, Maasmechelen and Hasselt (all in Belgian Limburg).

Yes, I've read this as well, Marengo, I've found some pics
of another project she visited during that tour on Tuesday,
but I can't say where exactly they were taken:

Nice that archduke Lorenz also attended, as Charles the Bold's terrerories ended up with the Habsburgs when Charles' only daughter Mary 'the Rich' married Maximilian of Austria.

Archduke Lorenz attended the 60th birthday party of crown princess Margarita of Romania. His brother archduke Martin of Austria-Este also attended the festivities. The birthday was on thursday 26 March though the celebrations lasted for 3 days.

Thanks Iceflower

The story on Prince Lorenz and Princess Astrid being at the Paralympic competition was appreciated as I'm a volunteer with a therapeutic riding program and it nice to see royals and other notables at events! By the way, when I chose my new name, I chose Astrid as my middle name:)

Princess Astrid attends many paralympic events. She also represented Belgium at the Paralympics in Bejing. I agree it is much appreciated that our royals give special attention to this kind of events.

On a side note, but doesn't she look 20 years younger in that 5th pic?

Yes, she does. Of course, as an equestrienne I would say any time you get your picture taken with a horse, you will look better:)

You are most welcome, kristens and it's great to hear that you
work in a similar field, and that on a voluntary basis! That's really
nice! :):)

LadyLeana, I totally agree with you about that, quite often she
really looks so much younger, a few days ago I've refound her
engagement pics and noticed that she and Lorenz will already
have their 25th wedding anniversary this year - that's amazing...

I've probably said it before but as my life changes and as we are about the same age, I look to Princess Astrid as a style setter for me

Vike-Freiberga at the Palais des Academies, Brussels,
Belgium, April 23, 2009 - it's a shorter haircut again, isn't it?

I thought it was the former Latvian President?

Yes, shorter haircut, and it really suits her!

Indeed, she was, I'm sorry, I've checked it a minute ago. One shouldn't
trust the captions too often.. If you look at the belga captions of these
pics you'll also find that they called Astrid "Mathilde" today :D

:cool::cool:

And I believe, last Sunday, they called Claire "Astrid" (in the title of the coverage/gallery anyway). :nonono:

One would say these princesses differ enough to be recognizable...

Princess Astrid has been named the newest member of the International Para Olympic Committee Honorary Board. She said courage is one the qualities she admires most in people and she applauds the courage of the athletes. She joins numerous other royals on the committee.
