In my personal opinion he is not jealous on his brother but feels he is misunderstood, framed as an idiot, is captured in a royal harness, kept at a too short leash by the Government.
The possibilities of the royals in neighbouring countries Luxembourg and the Netherlands to pursue an own career, to start an own business, were not given to Prince Laurent. It is unthinkable that Prince Laurent could start investing in an airline company, in a digital payments transfer company, in a medical centre, and become a multi-millionaire by his own, like Prince Friso. Unthinkable that Belgian, Flemish, Walloon politicians see this and do not interfere or frustrate the Prince.
The same with his uncle King Baudouin or his father King Albert II: personally I feel they have not actively encouraged and promoted independence and an own career for Prince Laurent (and Princess Astrid). In my personal opinion he is not jealous on the position of his brother.
King Philippe is under a magnifying glass, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I think Prince Laurent is unhappy in being relegated into playing a marginal role in a royal vaudeville. Now he is 56 and possibly feels his talents are unused and this would make anyone unhappy.
