Last week Prince Laurent of Belgium was asked about the Duke and Duchess. To Sudpresse he said that "no person should be the possession of his family. The situation with Harry proves one thing: you are just 'the son of...'. You are an object. That is unacceptable. You can not let a person live in such a situation. A person should not be the property of a family, or the government. Or you should be compensated. That is why I never agreed to that. And that is why I was punished. Hopefully it will change because I do not want to be the victim of archaic people. I do no longer want to be a thing that is the property of a structure, a government or a state.

Last week the prince was asked about the couple during a visit. He replied that he was happy for them if they are happy. And added: "I also had a job and I still hope to get it back.' He concluded the chat by saying: 'actually, it is none of my business'.

I saw on TV 10th edition of the Magritte du Cinema . Il was awfully vulgar. this should never has happen during a Cesar or an Oscar. The same film got all the Prices. Not one joke but several soi disant jokes. Any dignity !
Lucky the Prince had a chewing gum in his mouth !
I hope he will never com again.
Louise was so lovely..

Louise looks so much like Claire! She's grown a lot.

Louise is beautiful!
I think Laurent should have expected that joke. The same thing happened at the BAFTAs. Jokes were made about Megxit right in front of the Cambridges. They did the appropriate thing which was to laugh.

Sometimes sharing in the laugh minimizes the offense.

She is old enough to understand the situation; but in front of Louise I think the joke was inappropriate. If Laurent had attended the event with Claire it would've been a little more acceptable but I still think, in front of the family, the joke was off colour (as I did about Brad Pit's joke at the BAFTAs) and was best left for a private gig.

Great to see the couple again. I missed Prince Laurent at the Mass for the late members of the royal family in Laeken, last week.

Prince Laurent attended the launch of the 2nd edition of the "Red Rooms" operation on Place des Palais in Brussels. The money raised will be donated to Télévie, which will raise funds for research.

He struggled with dyslexia while attending a Dutch-speaking secondary school. He resented the decision to send him there as he was brought up speaking French. [...] Laurent was bullied at school — mainly for being a French-speaking royal attending a Flemish high school [...]
I wonder if that is why he, unlike his two siblings, did not send his children to a Dutch-speaking school - in his case, in spite of living in a Flemish city.

The section of the article concerning Prince Laurent's dispute with the Belgian and Libyan governments is interesting. It of course only tells his side of the story, but the quoted documents do appear to support his claim that different standards were applied in the debt negotiations with Libya depending on the identity of the creditor. His claim that the priority given to influential Belgian firms over his foundation is the result of a "personal vendetta" is more difficult to believe.

Quote:
Though Laurent has yet to receive any of the money he is owed, his investigation has had a clear impact, prompting federal prosecutors to seize billions of euros held by Euroclear and sparking a parliamentary enquiry into the interest payouts.

It has also earned him allies among those investigating the government’s handling of Libyan funds — though perhaps not the respect of the country’s media and political class.
Quote:
Michel Claise, the Belgian judge who has seized billions of Libya’s state funds on the back of a complaint by Laurent, declined to comment for this story. A spokesperson for the Royal Palace also declined to comment on the Libyan payments saying: “The prince is acting in his own name and the Royal Palace is not involved in the ongoing procedures.” A spokesperson for the Libyan Embassy in Brussels also declined to comment.
Apparently the Royal Palace preferred to distance itself from Prince Laurent's legal battle despite the support from the federal prosecutors. It seems to be an understandable choice since, apart from arguably crossing the line into political territory, the fact that the debt originated from the prince's business contract with the late dictator probably does not benefit the Royal Family in the court of public opinion.

The family of Prince Laurent and Princess Claire has been two weeks in quarantine after 'somebody in the household' got infected with the Corona-virus.

The Prince told Le Soir magazine that hospitalization was not needed and everybody was doing well. He said he was very careful himself as he belongs to a group that is at risque due to his severe pneumonia in 2014.

Le Soir shared a funny photo of the family:

Its nice to see that family side as so often the media portray Prince Laurent as Europe's grumpiest looking royal.
