What an interesting trip. I can't remember other royals having visited the country? While there's not much official cooperation between the two countries that I know of Sweden has a large Bosnian population of about 80000 people who have, for instance in the city I live in, left a giant mark on contemporary culture.

Interesting and exciting, already waiting for to see the program of the visit.
Information officer Ulrika Näsholm said to Svensk Damtidning:
- The crown princess couple will focus on the capital Sarajevo. They are an official visit similar to those that have taken place in Jordan, Lebanon, Vietnam, South Korea and Italy, and this time the crown princess couple will be accompanied by the Minister for Environment and Climate Isabella Lövin.
What will the crown princess couple do, more specifically?
- We must come back to that, the program is being developed in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and it has not been finalised yet, says Ulrika Näsholm.
The King's new strategy for Victoria
The increasingly intensive travel schedule is fully in line with the King's new strategy to place more responsibility on the crown princess couple. There will be more and more work for Victoria.

The prince of Wales made multiple visits to Bosnia & Herzegovina over the years. For the first time in 1978 (as part of Yugoslavia) and since on various occasions. Sometimes as part of a larger 'Balkan tour'. In 2007 Camilla joined him. See this overview of his Balkan visits.
Edit: The most recent royal visit was probably last year by prince Sultan bin Salman (of Saudi Arabia).
Sounds as if Victoria and Daniel's visit is tailored to their personal interests.

That seems the normal way of things. Outside of the official events they attend with the government officials. The visits they make on the tours are usually guided by the interests/work of the royals doing the tour.
I look forward to this trip. Admittedly not a country I have seen many photos of and studied a great deal. I look forward to watching this tour.

Charles has been to Bosnia 5 times since 1978, the last time in 2007.
Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia visited last year. But more as a government role then as a royal. He is president of the Saudi tourism board and was there in that capacity.

At Expressen
Victoria, Daniel and minister Isabella Lövin should today have had a meeting with the Presidential Council and attend the dinner the Prime Minister would have hosted. But they are still in Sweden because the government plane has a technical failure and could not take off, information officer Ulrika Näsholm told. Näsholm said that other alternatives, other itineraries, are being investigated but she didn't know when Victoria and Daniel would leave to Bosnia and Herzegovina. But they hope the program can be picked up as soon as possible.
On Wednesday, the Crown Princess couple and Isabella Lövin are expected to visit and exhibition of innovative solutions that make cities more environmentally friendly. Victoria will also speak at a conference on smart cities and renewable energy.

They should have written to the Swedish Academy, who decides Nobel Prize Laureates and the Swedish Government (especially the Foreign Department) who are responsible for the official visits.
Queen Silvia may feel a lot of sympathy for them, but she is in no position to do anything more than that.

From Victoria's speech:
Good morning – Dobro jutro.
Prince Daniel and I are honoured to be here today.
The relations between our two countries are strong, and they are manifested in many ways; both at the level of states and between our citizens.
This friendship is also confirmed by the warmth and hospitality with which you have welcomed us on this visit. Thank you! Hvala Lijepo.
...
When Prince Daniel and I travel to different parts of the world, representing Sweden, we often try to get a chance to meet with young people from the place that we are visiting.
Tomorrow, we will go to Trebevic to meet with teenagers participating in a workshop on environment. I am looking very much forward to it.
One thing often strikes me when I speak with this coming generation:
For them, climate change and pollution is not something we can choose to believe in or not.
It is not something that we can deal with later.
It is simply here and now – a reality that demands our immediate action.
Ladies and gentlemen. It is my sincere wish that you will all seize this opportunity to learn and share, and to create the basis for new ideas and alliances.
I truly believe that this is the only way forward: to face our challenges head on – and to do it together.

This has been a very busy day for Victoria and Daniel.
The royal court at its website about the first day
On November 6–7, the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel make a two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the visit, the Swedish government is represented by Minister Isabella Lövin.
Meeting with the Presidential Council
On arrival at the presidential palace in Sarajevo, the Crown Princess couple and the minister were welcomed by the popularly elected presidential council, which consists of three representatives from the constituent people's groups in the country: Bosniaks, Bosnian Croats and Bosnians. The Crown Princess couple then attended a meeting with the Presidency.
Environmental conference on smart cities
This morning, the Crown Princess couple attended a conference in Sarajevo's parliament focusing on smart cities, environmental solutions, air quality and renewable energy. The conference was organized by UNDP, the United Nations Development Program and the Swedish government and on site there were 300 people from the private and public sectors.
The Crown Princess began the conference by giving a speech, where she said:
“We should not underestimate the challenges ahead of us. But neither should we underestimate ourselves, and our ability to solve the problems we face. "
Visit to a Swedish IT company and meeting children in the RoboKids project
The Crown Princess couple then visited the Swedish IT company System Verification in the Sarajevo City Center. System Verification is a Swedish IT company that specializes in quality monitoring and analysis with a focus on innovation, efficiency and security.
The company's founder Hamdija Jusufagic's parents came to Sweden from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1970s and Jusufagics himself was a Swedish UN soldier in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today he has opened a branch in Sarajevo to give back to his parents' homeland.
The Crown Princess couple then met with children from Robokids, a local project where children aged 7-10 from different regions of the country can meet and learn more about programming together. RoboKids is supported by the organization KULT (Institute for Youth Development), an organization that Sweden supports financially. During the visit, the Crown Princess couple was given the opportunity to participate in a workshop where the children learned how to build robots.
Guided city tour and tree planting
After a lunch in the residence, the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel got a guided tour through Sarajevo's old town center. During the walk, they visited a Serbian Orthodox church, a mosque, a synagogue and a Catholic cathedral.
In the Kosevo Park, the Crown Princess couple participated in the planting of a tree. The planting symbolizes the start of the work on developing a new environmental strategy, with support from Sweden. The work is led by the Stockholm Enviroment Institute (SEI) - an international and non-profit organization that handles environmental and development challenges.
Visit to Furniture Museum Zanat, Srebrenica exhibition and dinner with youth organizations
The Crown Princess couple visited the furniture museum Zanat in the city of Konjic. The company was founded in 1927 and manufactures wooden furniture with a unique traditional wood carving technology, which is listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Zenat prioritizes environmental sustainability and is investing in reaching out internationally. The company has started cooperation with several international architects and designers.
Thereafter, the Crown Princess couple and Minister Isabella Lövin visited the Srebrenica exhibition at Gallery 11/07/95. The exhibition gives a picture of what the people of the country went through during the war and is still going through as many are still missing since the war. The museum's director and founder, Mr. Tarik Samarah, gave a guided tour of the permanent exhibition and told how it came about.
On Wednesday evening, the Crown Princess couple and the Minister attend a dinner together with representatives from various organizations working for innovation, entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for young people to stay in Bosnia Herzegovina.
The organizations that attend the dinner
IT Girls consists of young Bosnian women who work within the UN and make sure to give girls and young women the opportunity to learn about IT and programming.
The Institute for Youth Development (KULT) supports various youth organizations with the aim of getting more young people to stay in the country and get involved in politics and entrepreneurship.
Challenge 2 Change contributes to promising start-ups and small businesses in Bosnia Herzegovina that have not been able to obtain funding from other sources.
FARMA is a project that aims to increase exports of agricultural products from BiH to the European market. The project is being run in collaboration with USAID.
MOZAIK is a foundation that is a leading investor in the region and that supports and invests in value-driven innovative social entrepreneurs.
Sweden supports all these organizations.

The protest and letter must have been directed at the Crown Princess Couple and the Queen as symbols of the Swedish state rather than in their capacity as private citizens. Another issue is whether it is proper to treat the Swedish Academy as a representative of the Swedish state.
