I love this photo of Estelle hugging Victoria; there's so much love and warmth here. Estelle seems like a very affectionate little girl and seems to be particularly attentive to her younger brother, which is lovely to see.

For all it is Spring, it seemed very cold and that makes it even more amazing when so many people still turn out. As usual, the CP Couple and their children have this sweet colour coordination going on with Victoria in dusky red, Estelle in pink and Daniel and Oscar doing their blue thing.
There's the traditional band, the traditional surreptitious bobbing to the music, all the gifts of flowers. I love that even school classes come and that some things have become de facto tradition such as that humongous, spettkaka and a hello the FinnJasper the cat in a basket (sort of like people bring their dogs to say hello to Camilla).

Totally agree - being a Brit it makes me realise how under the radar in terms of pomp and circumstance "our" RF is in comparison to their European counterparts when we see events like this, too!

Svensk Damtidning's article about the celebration. Svensk Damtidning has counted that although Victoria has not every year attended at the celebration, she has been there 19 times and heard the military band play "Med en enkel tulipan!", which is played every year.
Svensk Damtidning also writes that Estelle is made to her future role, she loves to meet people, just like her mother. And although the day was rather cold, the event was a success to the crown princess family, a day to remember with many lovely moments.

Svensk Damtidning wonders at its article, when we will see Oscar again.
We ask Margareta Thorgren if the prince, and big sister Estelle, will be present when the crown princess celebrates her name day at Inner courtyard, March 12.
- Princess Estelle goes to school and prince Oscar at preschool so I can't answer to that today.

- Right now, the Crown Princess's name day celebration looks to be able to take place as planned - but at the same time we are following the development of the Corona virus, says the director of the press department Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.

Press release from the court
The Crown Princess's Name day celebration cancelled
The Armed Forces' traditional celebration of H.R.H. The Crown Princess's Name Day at the Royal Palace's inner courtyard on March 12 is cancelled.
The Crown Princess's Name day is celebrated annually with a tribute from the Swedish Armed Forces at the Royal Palace's inner courtyard. The celebration is open to the public and gathers a large number of congratulators each year.
For the sake of the public, which at the celebration usually gather on a limited area with some congestion, and based on the Public Health Agency's risk assessment of the new corona virus, the Royal Court and the Swedish Armed Forces decided to cancel the ceremony this year.

- This decision is made with care about the public who come here. It is usually quite crowded, says Johan Tegel from the court press department.

At the photos it seems that as every year, The Second Amphibious Battalion, which is also called The Victoria Battalion, gave Victoria a photo album of their work during the year.

Due to the current pandemic, Victoria's Name Day will be celebrated without an official ceremony.
Kalender - Sveriges Kungahus
Information officer Johan Tegel from the court said to Svensk Damtidning that The Armed Forces will traditionally present their congratulations to Victoria on her Name Day in a very small ceremony. The court will return to the details of that.

Can someone please explain to me why there is a Victoria Name Day? Will there eventually be an Estelle Name Day?

The celebration of Victoria's Name Day is the Swedish Armed Forces' celebration of the Crown Princess. The Armed Forces are not at Victoria's birthday celebration on Öland in July.
At this photo we see on the right Lieutenant general Jan Salestrand, the Chief of H.M.The King's Military Staff.

It's three years from the last public celebration, which has been cancelled due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

The Swedish Armed Forces courted the Crown Princess on the Name Day in the Royal Palace's inner courtyard, after two years of customized celebrations on a smaller scale. As the Crown Princess' birthday is normally celebrated on Öland, Name Day is the annual celebration of the Crown Princess in the capital, and has taken place since the early 1990s.
The ceremony was attended by the Guard of Honor from the Life Guards, the Main Guard from the Life Regiment's hussars K 3 and the Army Music Corps.
The first piece at the Army Music Corps' tribute concert was Drottning Victorias präsentiermarsch, a march that Carl Michael Bellman added lyrics to the melody. Kronprinsessan Victorias festmarsch was performed, Gratulation by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger and Livregementets grenadjärers marsch. The concert ended with Med en enkel tulipan followed by the Victoria fanfare and a fourfold live for the Crown Princess.
The celebration ended with the Crown Princess family meeting and greeting all those who came to participate in the celebration.
Lieutenant colonel Christofer Lennings from the Victoria Battalion at the 1st Marine Regiment handed over the traditional book about the battalion's activities as gift, as well as berets to Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

Most Swedish names are assigned a special day in the calendar. It's a remnant of the old Catholic custom of saints having special feast days.
Victoria has her name day today on 12 March, Estelle has her on 15 August and I have mine on 27 July.
The royal name day celebrations initially came about because the armed forces wanted to celebrate the name day of the monarch and has then evolved into the celebrations we see today. Estelle will most likely get celebrated in the same way after her mother ascends the throne.

But Estelle has a birthday when people won’t be on summer holidays (for her name day, it’s the reverse). Maybe things will have to change?
