Article from Leidsch Dagblad
The visit of Crown Princess Victoria is announced in the regional newspaper of Leyden (South Holland), the Leidsch Dagblad. Here is the link to the article.
Translation in English:
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden opens De Keukenhof
LISSE - Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will open the 58th season of De Keukenhof. In this season the flowerpark in Lisse will be dedicated to the famous Swedish physicist and botanicus Linnaeus. Still all tulips are baptized and classified according to a scheme developed by Linnaeus in the 18th century.
Crown Princess Victoria will perform the opening on the first day of Spring, Wednesday March 21st. De Keukenhof will be opened for the public from March 22nd until May 20th.
In the park the Swedish theme will be recognizable in various ways. The colours blue and yellow will be prominent and there are various expositions in the pavillions. A few months ago pupils from primary schools planted bulbs which will blossom and result in an enormous portrait of Pippi Långstrump, the main character in lots of books by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.
Crown Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Desirée (14 Juli 1977) is the Duchess of Västergötland and the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. She bears the title of Crown Princess since 1 January 1980, when the law was changed in favour of equal succession.

Today the princess is here in the Netherlands to open the Keukenhof in Lisse!! The main topic is the Dutch-Swedish relationship, and there is a mosaic work of pippi langkous (the dutch name for Pippi Langstrump) There are some Swedish magazines that have decorated some gardens in the keukenhof, and there is much more. Tonight i will look if there are some pictures of even a video of CP Victoria opening the Keukenhof.

The prime minister usually doesn't escort foreign royalty in The Netherlands, if I am not mistaken (apart from wreath laying and other more official things). But nice to see him there.
The Crownprincess seems an utterly charming lady and luckily the weather wasn't to bad this morning either.

Yes her charm and interaction with people is more important than the way she looks but I was merely pointing out how stunning Crown Princess Victoria looks giving the fact she is normally talked about with people saying that she does not make such a huge effort.

Strange indeed.
Of course the premier is involved by formal state events but the opening of a flower park? Princess Máxima, Princess Mabel or Princess Laurentien could have escorted the Princess, in my humble opinion.
But the fact that the premier apparently was requested to escort the future head-of-state of Sweden, is a sign of respect as well, of course. On the news the Crown Princess and the premier went very well, all laughing and small-talk together. Premier Balkenende and Crown Princess Victoria will have met each other for the first time 2004 (baptism of Princess Catharina-Amalia).

Victoria looks lovely! Love the hair, it's a very grown up style for her. But she is almost 30. Thanks for all the pics everyone!
Also I have a question about what Keukenhof translates to in english? I heard on a travel show filmed in Amsterdam that Keukenhof is kitchen. If that's true then could someone explain this event to me better. I'm not seeing the connection.

Lady Jacoba, Duchess of Bavaria, Countess of Holland, Zealand and Hainaut (1401-1436) lived nearby on Teylingen Castle and used this large park not only for the flower decorations of her residence but also for the providing of (medicinal and culinar) herbs, vegetables and fruit. It was known as the 'Kitchen Courtyard', working for Lady Jacoba's gigantic Household.
In the centuries the park evolved into a renowned flower park but the name 'Keukenhof' ('Kitchen Courtyard') remained the same.

Oops! Crown Princess Victoria tumbles the pillar down!
Hilarity!
The pillar with the green push-button is straight up again.
The Crown Princess poses for a fantastic photo.
The Crown Princess heads for The Hague, to have lunch with her godmother Queen Beatrix and Princess Máxima. Maybe she will see her godchild Princess Catharina-Amalia as well.
