On Friday, April 27, the Crown Princess couple visited Latvia to pay attention to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the country's independence.
The day began at Riga Castle where the Crown Princess couple were welcomed by Latvia's President Raimonds Vējonis and his wife Iveta Vējone. Following the welcome ceremony, a meeting was held between the Crown Princess couple and the presidential couple.
After the meeting, the Crown Princess couple and the presidential couple attended the unveiling of a portrait by Erik Dahlbergh. As a graduation project, artist Kristín Ķibermane, who has been educated as art conservator and restaurateur at the Latvia Academy of Fine Arts, painted a copy of one of David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl's portrait by Erik Dahlbergh.
The President then gave a lunch at the President's residence at Riga Castle. In connection with lunch, the Crown Princess gave a thank you speech.
After lunch, the Crown Princess couple visited the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga where they talked with students from the Future Leaders Academy, a leadership program for young aspiring politicians and community leaders, including the importance of the UN's global sustainability goals.
Then the Crown Princess couple visited the National Library, also known as The Castle of Light, where national librarian Andris Vilks showed the Cabinet of Folksongs link to other website, opens in new window , a collection of about 200,000 listed Latvian folk songs, as well as the Rare Books and Manuscripts Collection. The Crown Princess spoke and handed Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna by Erik Dahlbergh to the National Library Collection.
As a conclusion to the visit to the National Library, the Crown Princess couple and the presidential couple were shown the Baltic Art Center's migration project In the Trails of Boat Refugees.
The Crown Princess couple finished the day with a visit to Latvian National Museum of Art, where the Crown Princess opened the Portable Landscapes exhibition - an international art project with exhibitions in Riga, New York, Gotland and Berlin. The exhibition tracks Latvian and Baltic art in exile and emigration from the beginning of the 20th century to today.

A week ago, I attended the 400th anniversary celebration of the Swedish National Archives, Riksarkivet, in Stockholm. The documents kept there date as far back as the turn of the eleventh century.
One of the speakers talked about the many Baltic and Finnish historians who come to Stockholm to conduct their research. Just like their Swedish colleagues come here, to the National Library, in order to learn more about our shared history.
Yes, Latvia and Sweden are connected by our past. But also by our future. Not least the future of the Baltic Sea.
Throughout history, our countries have depended on the Baltic Sea – for our livelihood and for our survival. Now, the survival of the sea depends on us.

Mister President, as a gift from my country to yours, I would like to present you with this copy of “Suecia Antique et Hodierna” [Suecia Antikva ett Hodiärna] - the most renowned architectural and topographical documentation of Sweden during the age of imperial greatness. It was edited by Erik Dahlbergh, governor general of Livonia in the 17th century.

I just loved the anecdote about Victoria with the babies on the plane. That confirms why she is my favourite Crown Princess. She's so down to earth and seems really easy to talk to. I'd love to have a chat over coffee with her!

About the photo of Victoria and Daniel with the twins on their way home from Latvia:
Anna Swic from Stockholm had been on a work trip in Latvia, and was on a SAS flight from Riga to Arlanda on Friday night. With her she had her two sons: the nine-month-old twins Maximilian and Benjamin.
With the same flight was also the Crown Princess couple.
The two twins have just learned to crawl and when the flight was in the air they needed to stretch.
- It was quite late so I thought either I let them crawl or I let all passengers be maintained by their screams, says Anna Swic.
One of the sons, Maximilian, decided to crawl into business class, tells the mother.
And there sat crown princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.
- I saw who sat there and thought "now, Säpo will stop the kid", says Anna Swic, laughing.
- But nobody got up and Prince Daniel who sat by the corridor started talking to Maximilian.
Anna Swic was just behind the son and also contacted the Crown Princess couple. The royals asked, inter alia, how old the sons were, were interested in how it was to have twins and said the babies were cute.
- But I was so shocked that I did not really notice the words, says Anna Swic.
She asked for a photo. The Crown Princess couple ate ar the time - but offered Anna Swic to take a photo later on during the trip.
Two photos became one of which ended up to Mom's Instagram.
Anna was surprised that the Crown Princess couple posed for a photo - and got a very positive impression of the royals.
- They were so warm, just like you see them on TV. They were very nice, smiled and listened. One could see that they like children very much.

Also Aftonbladet has contacted Anna Swic. Anna says that Victoria and Daniel felt like any people. They were very nice. It was a little embarrassing because the children were dirty after crawling around the plane. But Victoria smiled and said they were so cute, says Anna, who plans to print the photo and put it to the children's room.

On their visit to Estonia on 19th August, Victoria and Daniel attend the re-consecration of St. Mary's Chapel on the island of Naissaar.
Pastor Patrik Goransson of St. Michael's Church in Tallinn told regional newspaper Harju Elu that an invitation for members of the royal house to attend the event had already been sent a couple of years ago, for the simple reason that King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Crown Princesses' father, has long supported the restoration of the chapel.
"The windows, for instance, were restored with the help of a royal donation," the Pastor said.

Worth noting is that the island, in Swedish known as Nargö, was inhabited by Swedish farmers and fishermen from the Middle ages up until 1944 when they fled over the Baltic sea to escape the advancing Red Army.

On Sunday, August 19, the Crown Princess couple visits Estonia to pay attention to the 100th anniversary of Estonia's independence.
The Crown Princess couple is welcomed by Estonia's President Kersti Kaljulaid at the Presidential Palace in Kadriorg, Tallinn. The program starts with an individual meeting and lunch at the Presidential Palace. After that, the Crown Princess plants a tree in Kadriorg Park.
The Crown Princess couple then goes to Nargö and attends a church service and reinauguration of the St. Mary's Chapel, which belogs to the Estonian Swedish St. Michael's parish in Tallinn. In connection with the church service, the Crown Princess couple meets also Estonian Swedes.
As an end to the visit in Estonia, the Crown Princess couple attends the grand singing festival "Estonian Joint Singing Song Power" at the Song Festival Grounds in Tallinn.
