On Thursday 27 August, the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel visited Region Stockholm's ambulance service.
The visit began with the Crown Princess couple receiving information about AISAB (Ambulance Healthcare in Greater Stockholm AB) and how Region Stockholm's ambulance care was affected during the covid-19 pandemic.
At the final part of the visit, the Crown Princess couple had a tour of the ambulance hall and the opportunity to talk to specialist nurses, ambulance nurses and doctors about their experiences.
During the tour, ambulances and one of the three intensive care ambulances (MICU) that are specially equipped to transport patients with special care needs between different care units were also shown. The vehicles are adapted to be able to provide the same intensive care as in an intensive care unit in a hospital.
The purpose of the visit was mainly to have the opportunity to meet employees in the ambulance service and get information about their work during pandemic times.

Today, Victoria and Daniel finally could thank the ambulance staff for everything they did during the pandemic - and the ambulance with extra space for a mother went straight into Victoria's heart.
To be able to say thank you to the ambulance staff - it has topped Victoria's and Daniel's wish list for a long time. And today it was finally time. The Crown Princess couple got to meet the paramedics, doctors and nurses at Solna Ambulance Station in Hagalund, just a couple of kilometers from their own home in Haga Park.
- We felt that it was very important to come here to learn more about the months we have behind us. But also to express our warm thanks - and express our great admiration. Ambulance care has played an incredibly important role during this extreme situation, said Crown Princess Victoria.
And what are the impressions?
- The incredible competence you possess! in Prince Daniel.
- Yes, it is impressive to see, and very reassuring when you get to see what equipment you have and hear about everything you can actually do before you have reached the hospital, Victoria continued.
They also heard about the challenges faced by the staff in the field.
- It has been intense and very different. But also rewarding. You have had to be very much a fellow human being, stated doctor Jesper Andersson from the ambulance.
- When it was at its peak in the spring, we had 95 percent corona patients.
- We really admire the work you do. And I think that applies to all Swedes, Prince Daniel said seriously.
The Crown Princess couple also had to step into the intensive care ambulance, a truck that was converted into a rolling intensive care unit. And Victoria was clearly touched when she heard that the ambulance next door had extra space, so that a mother could sit next to her sick child.
- Ohhh! said Victoria.
A situation that she herself has not had to be part of:
- We have not needed the ambulance with the children, knock on wood, Prince Daniel said spontaneously.
Victoria and Daniel also revealed that they have a slightly special tradition at home at Haga. They live only a few hundred meters from Karolinska Hospital - and when it starts buzzing in the air, the Haga family knows what to do:
- Do you see that we wave to you? said Prince Daniel.
And the nurse from the ambulance helicopter smiled and said:
- Well, we do! And we always wave back!
The Crown Princess couple's visit had gathered the largest media gathering so far this autumn and it was sometimes crowded between us journalists in the ambulance hall. Something that the Crown Princess immediately saw with her hawk eye:
- I do not know, but aren't you very tight here all of a sudden? I'm thinking of your own safety!
And Daniel said:
- This is still a very good example of what they talked about on TV yesterday: That we have become so sluggish in our approach to corona. You can see that quite clearly here! he said, pointing to us in the media group.
So it was time to say goodbye and thank you.
- Good luck and all the strength in the future! in Victoria.
And Daniel smiled:
- We must continue to wave to each other. We're pretty close!

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited the ambulance service in Region Stockholm on Thursday.
During the visit to Solna Ambulance Station, Daniel and Victoria expressed their gratitude to the ambulance paramedics who worked under stressful conditions during the covid-19 pandemic. They also got to meet staff and get a tour of the vehicles.
- One is used to shake hands, said Prince Daniel when he greeted the staff from a distance.
Due to the pandemic, there were only a limited number of places for the press - but when the Crown Princess did not think that the safety distance really held the measure, she shouted:
- Now you are all very tight here suddenly, I think of your own safety, she said firmly.
Victoria is protected with plastic: "A way to ensure"
That the Crown Princess couple takes safety very seriously also became clear when it was time to leave the ambulance station. When Daniel and Victoria got into the car, it was seen how the plastic drapes inside the car were separated the driver from the other passengers.
- In some cases, measures take place in such forms, it is a way to ensure continued external and physical visits, says Margareta Thorgren.
- We have recommendations and restrictions in Sweden, it is important that everyone in society follows them so that we can overcome the spread of infection. This of course applies to the royal family, but also, for example, photographers and others who we also cherish at the photo opportunities.
Margareta Thorgren says that the royal family focuses on paying attention to important functions and efforts in society - not least important during the ongoing pandemic.
- The purpose of this visit is to highlight ambulance care, there is a heavy burden in healthcare, says Margareta Thorgren.
