Crown Princess Couple's Visit to San Francisco & Silicon Valley, USA: Jan 19-21, 2015
The Court has added a three day visit in the calendar for Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel to USA. The visit will take place in San Francisco and Silicon Valley between January 19-21 2015.
No further information is known at this point.

Margareta Thorgren from the press department told to Svensk Damtidning that the trip to San Francisco is arranged because of Crown Princess Victoria's and Prince Daniel's own initiative:
- They will visit a number of companies focused on IT. This is a trip which will provide an opportunity to the crown princess couple to improve themselves in the industry.

On Monday Victoria and Daniel visit among other things the company Stripe which works with payment solutions on the internet, and electric car maker Tesla. The day ends with a panel discussion with Nordic entrepreneurs operating in the area. On Tuesday Victoria and Daniel visit Stanford University for meetings, including principal John Hennesy. On Wednesday the Crown Princess Couple will visit two of the Internet's biggest players: Google and Facebook.
Estelle will travel with Victoria and Daniel. Svensk Damtidning also writes that it is said that Victoria and Daniel spent Midsummer some years ago in San Francisco.

Given this visit is not superformal, its a great opportunity to take Estelle and give her an idea what her parents do. Its ideal for a working family. In general I think that Victoria & Daniel are doing a great job including Estelle into their working life, to make it normal for her in a way.IMO she is the most natural of all royal kids, together with the norwegian and danish kids, maybe its a cultural thing just to make a royal life look normal.

I think it's great how Victoria and Daniel introduce Estelle to official events.
It is lovely that both Victoria and Estelle are wearing blue which is the colour of the Swedish flag. How lovely.

Here Estelle charms USA - and eats buns
Anne Lidgard, director of Vinnova's Silicon Valley office (which organizes the visit), says that Estelle is absolutely adorable. She charms everyone.
It was the Crown Princess Couple's own idea - to go to IT companies mecca: the Silicon Valley to meet with some of the world's foremost experts and entrepreneurs in IT technology.
But the first stop on the three-day tour was actually Swedish church for a proper Swedish coffee break. Victoria, Daniel and Estelle came to the Swedish Church in matching blue clothes where they were treated to Swedish cinnamon buns, biscuits and of course Swedish coffee. Together with other children Estelle sang Imse Vimse spindel.
- It was very warming, hearty and intimate, says Lidgard.
But yesterday it was time for seriousness and Estelle had to stay home when the Crown Princess Couple's official program kicked off.
- The idea is that the Crown Princess Couple will see as much as possible of the unique ecosystem that Silicon Valley is. We have visited carmaker Tesla factory and Runway which are San Francisco's hottest incubators, Victoria and Daniel got to meet the founder Allan Young. We also visited the new stars on the data sky, the company Stripe involved in payment solutions, says Lidgard.
Both Victoria and Daniel have taken their studies seriously, she says.
- They are very grateful visitors, extremely interested and knowledgeable. They have set sensible questions that have generated good discussion. I think they felt that it is very spontaneous and quite relaxed atmosphere here, even if it is a tremendous professionalism, it's a pretty relaxed style in Silicon Valley.
One of many entrepreneurs who met the couple is Alexander Börve, norwegian, educated in Sweden and founder of the IT service iDoc24, where you send pictures of skin conditions and receive answers from a dermatologist.
- Prince Daniel is an entrepreneur so he was very positive and in a good spirit. I said to Victoria that I know, children are always a lot of rash and with the first child one is extra nervous. I explained that we are a bit like medical care information service. They thought it was a smart idea!
In the evening Victoria and Daniel met with the world renowned entrepreneurs and IT investors, Bill and Tim Draper before it was time for a panel discussion at the Computer History Museum where heavy Nordic players including Barbro Osher, Consul General of Sweden, spoke on the theme "From start-up to success".

When Victoria and Daniel worked the general consul of Sweden chose yesterday to hang out with the little princess.
- We went to the zoo and made pancakes, says Barbro Osher.
Actually, Estelle already has a nanny along with her, but after Consul General met Estelle, she was so fond of the little princess that she offered to babysit when Victoria and Daniel yesterday visited companies in Silicon Valley.
- I got to make pancakes and go to the zoo. I dressed in "josa" and "josa" shoes according to Estelle, says Barbro Osher and mimics the princess who has not yet learned to say the letter "r". (Rosa = pink)

About the first day at the website of the royal court:
The visit began on Monday when the Crown Princess Couple visited Runway, their office in Twitter Building in San Francisco which provides office space for the selected start-up companies in the technology world. Then Victoria and Daniel visited Stripe, which works with transactions between online merchants and their customers. Next the Crown Princess Couple visited Tesla Motors in Fremont outside San Francisco. They met Swede Peter Carlsson, head of logistics, who spoke about Tesla and showed around the factory.
The afternoon began with a visit to Bill and Tim Draper. They are both venture capitalists with extensive experience.
In the evening Victoria and Daniel attended at the event "The Nordics and Silicon Valley - From Startup to Success" at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Swedish and Nordic companies presented themselves to the Crown Princess Couple and other invited guests. The event was hosted by Nordic Innovation House, which is owned and operated jointly by the Nordic countries.

even thought he trip is packed full of things, it almost seems like a waste of time given that they travel all the way from Sweden for just 3 days!!! but that is just my opinion!

I dont think its a waste of time. Nothing beats a face to face meeting in an important field.
Frederik of DK, and Guilleme of Lux, did similar trips to Silicon Valley/SF, recently with similar agendas and days.
Victoria with Daniel and Estelle, have made it a nice family trip too.

Our local news reported Monday night that they took Princess Estelle to the San Francisco Zoo over the weekend. I hope they take her to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium before they go back to Sweden - it's an amazing place.

On Tuesday Victoria and Daniel visited Stanford University. Professor Arthur Bienenstock presented the university and gave an overview of the relationship between the university and Sweden. Stanford University has over 15,000 students.
Then they visited d.school - One of America's leading design schools and part of Stanford University. They learned more about the design philosophy and the methods applied in education.
After a meeting with principal John Hennessy they had lunch at the campus.
After lunch they attended at round table discussion focused on how technology can help create a better environment.
A relatively new field of research at Stanford is biotechnology. At the Clark Center Victoria and Daniel were presented current projects and discoveries.
The day concluded with a networking dinner where the focus was on future technology trends with a focus on health.
