What royals attended the Sydney 2000 Olympic games?

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden.

I attach some pictures with the King and Queen during the Olympic Games in Sydney, here with Olympic wrestling champion Mikael Ljungberg (may he rest in peace) and Olympic tabletennis/ping-ping Silver Medalist Jan Ove Waldner:

Thanks GrandDuchess for the above pictures of the Swedish royals in Sydney. Funny picture to see Queen Silvia doing the wave! :p

Inaki Urdangarin, husband of Infanta Cristina participated in the games, winning a bronze (I think) medal for handball. Cristina was heavily pregnant at the time with their second son Pablo.

There are many pictures of Infanta Cristina with her son Juanito, Queen Sofia, Prince Felipe, Princess Alexia and Queen Anne Marie watching Inaki's games.

Wasnt two of the british royals there too???
i think sophie of wessex was there too with edward

As Alexandria mentioned....

Didn't Princess Martha Louise compete in horse trials or something?

This may be going a bit off topic but I read in a magazine (so it may not be true) that when Frederick and Mary met at the Slip Inn, Martha Louise and Prince Nikolaos of Greece were there.

Yes, that is true. And I belive there was another crown prince there aswell. I think I read that prince Frederik said "I wasn´t the only crownprince there that night"... who might that be? prince Pavlos? Or Felipe?

It was Crown Prince Filipe. Im sure it was, i remember that he was with Frederik in Sydney.

I'm trying to recollect  but wasn't Princess Anne and the Duke of Kent there as well? Usually there are British royals present since several of them have connections to sports and/or athletic associations, but for the life of me I can't remember exactly who the UK reprentatives were.

i think the British representatives was Prince Edward and maybe Sophie, but i am positive that Edward was there. Im not sure if Sophie accompanied him though

Incredible to think how life has changed for so many in the photographs. Felipe and Phillipe have ascended to the throne. Felipe, Frederik, Martha Louise would all marry in the following years with Joachim divorcing/remarrying. Inaki and Cristina's role in the Spanish royal family now diminished.

The Spanish State Visit to Denmark has made me interested with how Mary and Frederick met.

So Felipe was really there at the pub? With Frederick? How about Pavlos?

The Greek brothers (Pavlos and Nikolaos) were going out with their cousins Frederik and Felipe, I think Märtha-Louise was also there. Pavlos asked an Australian friend -who happened to be friends with Mary- to bring more people along, Mary was amongst them...and the rest is history.

It was not Pavlos, it was Bruno Gómez Acebo who was at the Olympic Games with his mother, Infanta Pilar, who was a member of the IOC. Beatrice Tarnawski was Bruno's friend and she took Mary.

I’ve posted a link to an extensive extract from the “There’s Something About Mary” book thread theroyalfly, which covers this night in some detail.

There used to be several photos on the internet from the group of twelve at the “Starr Bar” … which they went on to from the “Slipp Inn” and “The Establishment” that same night … which I came across last year.
