Why did the duke of Edinburgh wear this specific type of trousers during the Danish state visit to the UK in 1974? Did he regularly wear them? And if so, when did he stop doing so?

The breeches, hose and jacket are formal Windsor Court Dress. I don’t believe Prince Philip ever stopped wearing them. He wore them when he was very old when a State Visit happened before he gave up royal duties but I can’t remember which one, I’m afraid.
