State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II: 19 September 2022

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Does it really matter how people were seated? I doubt any of them took offense to what chair they got to sit in. It's a funeral.

For the Family, they can take some understandable liberties at the funeral. For example, place the late Queen's children (the King's siblings) ahead of the King's sons in the funeral procession although the King's sons now outrank them, but, generally, yes, royal courts tend to observe precedence in seating and that matters (regardless of whether one takes offense or not, that is not the point).

I suppose that, as the others said, there was some convoluted logic, however, to how the guests were seated. And the prime ministers of the Commonwealth realms were all seated, I guess, further behind behind the choir, indicating that they are heads of government, but not heads of state, which humbles the politicians too !

I am also glad that the presidents of republics, including the POTUS or the President of France, were given less precedence than royals and even deposed royals in the seating. That may be not very diplomatic, but it is appropriate for a monarchy to do so, at least in my opinion.

We’re in a royalty forum. Pardon me, but protocol absolutely matters.

Believe it or not, I'm well aware of what this place is. My point was that it's a funeral. Some things are more important than making sure no one's feathers are ruffled. I doubt anyone attending the funeral today felt insulted because they sat where they did or next to who they did. I'm also sure they understood that due to space limitations at the Abbey, maybe they had to sit in a row with people ranked lower or higher than them. You know, sometimes you have to roll with it. It's not like they had to sit outside in a car and listen to the service on the radio.

What a dignified tribute to such an amazing woman. Not only the state funeral but also the procession to Wellington Arch.

So, the procession is over and the late Queen will begin her journey to Windsor. Very poignant.

The consorts have now joined the royal party.

Did I spot Anne is once again travelling behind the hearse?

Yes, and the rest are going direct to Windsor to meet the hearse there.

How lovely that Anne continues to accompany her mother.

Did I spot Anne is once again travelling behind the hearse?

Yes she and Tim are again accompanying The Queen on this last leg.

Anne has been a tower of strength but I wonder how she would have gone without Tim by her side. He is clearly now her 'strength and stay'.

Yes, that makes sense. The European royals were probably given precedence over the Asian ones because they are all also cousins of the late Queen.

I think it's because they're Christian monarchs.

What an incredibly moving, dignified, ceremony and processions for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Words fail me to describe how I felt. the planners did a wonderful job in organising everything. Truly I was most impressed. The two young children were absolutely a credit to their family. I am glad that the two of them were there as company for each other. I did see in the car apparently chatting to each other. Thank you to the people who did all the recording so we could see it live.

It was an emotional service. Three wonderful hymns. Very traditional, rooted in centuries of the Anglican tradition.

The scale of the procession took me back. I'm not sure why because we've all seen images from the funerals of George vi & v but to see it in the flesh so to speak was extraordinary.

The RCMP leading the procession was lovely.

Speaking of seating, can someone point out where extended relatives sat? I saw the Hicks and Prince Philip’s nephews, but who were the people around them? Where did Penny, Margaret Rhodes’ family, Camilla’s family and the Middletons sit?

It is a nice coincidence that the two services today had/will be/en held in this two churches where the two sons of the current king married.

The statefuneral in the church his oldest son married.
The committal service in the church his youngest son married.

I’m glad that Sarah was included today. I would imagine that it was the wish of the Queen.

It was quite hard to see who was sitting where, but there’ll be loads of pictures in next week’s Hello magazine etc.

I don't know why I was, but I was surprised to see Sarah Ferguson there. Did she maintain any kind of relationship with the Queen or other members of the family aside from her ex-husband and daughters? I'm glad she was there for them, I'm sure they appreciated her presence.

The number of people witnessing the journey of the late queen to Windsor are remarkable.

One hundred thousand waiting just along the Long Walk in Windsor apparently.

They just showed the prince and princess of Hohenlohe-Langeburg, who were standing outside of Windsor Chapel, admiring the flower arrangements.

Her and the Queen were great friends. Always went to stay st Balmoral. They saw eachother regularly at Windsor.

Did the hearse had the flowers on when it leaved Wellington Arch? I didn't notice them.

What an unusual setting for such a procession, before it turns into the Long Walk. Out in the fields with no crowds. It reminds me of the Investiture in 1969, where the carriages had to drive through an unusually rural area to get between the railway station and the center of Caernarfon.

No, people were tossing them at the hearse.

I'm thinking that the procession started at the city limits.

Yes what an amazing sight :flowers:

King Felipe and Queen Sofía will represent the Spanish Royal Family in Windsor. Queen Letizia has tried to go until the last moment but she has to take a regular flight to New York from London, and it has been impossible to fit the security protocols with her arrival at the airport.
