In the link that Sara posted above, I believe that in the picture the Queen and Prince Philip are laughing at the barriers keeping the media at bay which kept falling down, because that's what I read in the newspaper this morning, which I thought was quiet funny myself! :D

Royal visit sparks republic debate

A lot of the women where i was working today(a nursing home) were talking about it over lunch, some really dissapointed they'd missed it on tv. Anyway, it's so great to have our Queen here! One woman in the elevator was all excited, telling me she 'saw the Queen' she was wearing lime green and looked 'glorious':)

At my place of work, a school, the sentiment was "ho hum" who is she and why is she here? We should be a republic and do away with this anachronism'

Maybe some people, including the kids, were trying to wind me up but the attitude really was - who cares about her.

Sorry - but that was my experience today at a Western Sydney school.

NB These are NOT my sentiments but those of the kids and my colleagues.

Just in case anyone wanted to know, walker Jane Saville has just been announced as Australia's flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday night...
I don't know if any of our overseas forum members know of Jane, but she would have won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics for the women's 20km walk, had she not been disqualified when she entered the arena, so it's a special moment for Australian Sport

Traitors to the Crown is what they are ;) :D ...

We (monarchists) are becoming a dwindling memory in this great nation...those like Von Schlesian and myself are but a rare breed of young crown supporters who do what we can to prevent the inevitable.

May God Save The Queen & may she continue to reign over these distant, but familair shores...

I'm so excited and happy today, i saw the Queen just about 5m away from me at the Opera House!Having been a fan for Her Majesty more than 8 years, and now for the first time seeing her, i'm so luckly as it'd be Her Majesty's last trip to Australia when she will turn to 80th in April.....
My sister's friend helped me to get to Opera House in the morning, and we got to wait from 10.30,couldn't believe there was too much people there, i got about third stairs going up to the Opera House, and i took a really good photo of The Governor General and the Prime Minister walking to wait for the Queen's arrival. It was a bit sunny so certainly hotty as well, but i can stand with it...:D It was funny the old guide man said that the good news the Queen has arrived at Sydney Airport and she doesn't have to get through the customs....;) And finally, the Queen arrived at about 11.15 in Rolls-Royce, i was so exciting that moment, Her Majesty came in a lime bright outfit with a matching hat, smiling, talked to the Governor General, the PM and their spouses, got curtseyed from the Governor Generals wife and waving to the crowd while walking for the Welcoming Ceremony ,....Her Majesty was so elegant from all her etiquettes,...she has really lovely smile!I was singing God Save The Queen along when the Guards of Honours God Save The Queen was sang twice as well as Australian Advanced Fair, and it was great when the Queen's Lady-in-waiting looked up and i smiled to her and she did smiled back to me!:) I did recorded some videos of the Queen during the salute, and photos as well...Then Her Majesty undertook a walkabout, talking to the crowd, she is a dedicated Queen, she spent times talking to people, luckily they got talk to the Queen, people who stood on the side, presneting flowers, taking photos....
Then i left for heading to St Andrew's Cathedral...Her Majesty's Rolls-Royce was quite big when seeing in it in real than in the pictures...Prince Edward was there as well for the Commonwealth Service, but i didn't see him outside just the Queen and Prince Philip...Anthony Callea also sang infront of the Queen and other guests, then on Getty Images, so he did attended the Commonwealth Reception at Admiralty House with the Queen and other special guests and shook hand with Her Majesty!!!!Badluck that the security man at St Andrew's got wrong that where Her Majesty will take the walkabout made me couldn't see her like other people stood near the side of the Town Hall, so lucky they were,...but i was so happy when Her Majesty left, i could see her clearly again, she waved to the group i stood, and smiled....i was so excited waving back to her, but it'd be good for a picture that clear of the Queen:( ....But at least that it was so perfect at Sydney Opera House, i couldn't imagine that i could have seen the Queen one day in my life!!!!
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness have backed to Canberra for a busy day of engagements tomorrow, and great!can see Her Majesty in Tiara with Australian Order tomorrow night!
A great day!Thank you to Her Majesty and His Royal Highness for being back to Australia, i wish Her Majesty with Long live like her mother used to be!

God saves the Queen! Long live the Queen! I am looking forward to the open ceremony for the Commonwealth Games.

This was the attitude around my university today, most people didnt even know she had come! But they were mostly indifferent to her arrival when i told them she actually had arrived lol.

She is a very hard working Queen and I have a lot of respect for her. Despite my republic tendencies lol

Great pictures! I really like the white/yellow dress. :)

Her Majesty looks glorious in her lime green suit!

As an outsider looking in, I can understand both sides of the debate (Queen vs. an Australian Republic) but really...how can you not be exicted when a Queen shows up in your homeland :)

Queen Brightens things up Down Under
The Queen made a colourful impression on crowds of well-wishers who turned out to greet her upon her arrival in Australia on Sunday. With a vibrant yellow skirt to go with her white jacket and matching hat, the sovereign was on dazzling form as she stepped down onto the tarmac of Canberra Airport.........................

Diggin the lime Ma'am. A new set of outfits with a great lime hat. From what i could see on bbc news 24 there were really big crowds out to see them both, which sort of slaps the journo's in the face as they keep saying it's toned down visit as she is not wanted in australia anymore and this is her last tour but the tv is showing shows she is QUEEN OF AUSTRALIA and is warmly regarded by many.

I don't really follow the British royals but I really admire Her Majesty and she looked so lovely! The lime green hat is so nice :)

Its not Queen v's Australian Republic...It's not the Queen (personally) that many have issue with, its the system....they wont out...

Idiots of course ;) :D

She is still great spirit... I wonder .. will she her last visit to Australia???? or other country because her age....

slightly OT but iv'e just had a commonwealth day party. Kiwi's, fosters, fish and chips, curry, banna and mago fritters and a kath and kim dvd all wearing our replica st edward crowns. fab why dosen't the uk celebrate commonwealth day i would love an extra day off!

Dear Members,

At serious risk of being rude, impertinant and outright obnoxious, I wish you dear Aussies would just get over it. There was a referendum a few years back, as I recall, and guess what a majority-55% voted to retain the monarchy. So why do you keep on? You say it is an anachronism. Well we in the United States of America have an anachronism too. And it is called a republic. You have QEII and we have, horrors, GWB. We will have him for three more God awful years. Give me the Queen any day of the week. You could go to at least several dozen countries, where if the people were honest they would say the same thing. Count yourselves lucky, real lucky.

As for the system, well let's look. Has it really been so awful. Every single one of your monarchs since good Queen Victoria of blessed memory have at least been more or less decent. They haven't really mucked things up and have actually on more than one occassion helped things along nicely.

Can you say that about republics, I should say not. The American political system has turned out to be an honest to God horror, a combination of freak show and insane asylum. And the American people? Well I will not go there. As for that obscene political animal called the politician, I cannot say what I really think. I would be banned from this website for pornograhy-in the original meaning of the word.

So why don't you draw a long breath, play God Save the Queen, Advance Australia Fair (which it is) and Waltzing Matlida -You may play the latter any time you please, if you will just explain to me just what a Waltzing Matilda is. So relax and realize that you have one of the most successful and decent political systems in the world.
As we like to say in South Carolina in the Good (?) Ole US of A: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Cheers. Thomas Parkman

I have been pleastenly suprised by the Queen. I love her bright summery outfits. Does anybody have a video of her commonwealth speech.

I saw the Queens plane land on sunrise. She looked so lovely and happy.

To Thomas Parkman
There's no such thing as a Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda is a poem writen by Banjo Paterson. Which is popular in Australia.

Hi Margrethe II

Well I dont consider myself an idiot because I'm a republican thank you very much! :)

Thomas Parkman:

Some Australians want an Australian as head of state. I'm sure you wouldn't want a non-American as your president that lives in another country far away right? But I'm not going to get into a republic v monarchy debate here because lets just concentrate on welcoming HM and wait after she has left the country to start debating...out of courtesy :)

Of course your not...

The comment was meant as friendly banter, Australian... don't get your republican underwear in a knot now ;) :D :)

P.S. that too was meant as harmless fun, just incase you thought otherwise.

Just please PM when you do. ;) :D

The Queen looked great! I would love to be close to them just to hear what Prince Philip has to say.
