News from The Associated Press

British royal officials say Queen Elizabeth II's husband has been taken to the hospital after experiencing chest pains.

Buckingham Palace said Friday the Duke of Edinburgh was taken from Sandringham, the queen's sprawling estate in rural Norfolk, to the cardiac unit at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge for "precautionary tests."

I do hope he's alright and returns to Sandringham shortly, wouldn't want him to miss out on all the fun.

Whoa, I hope its nothing. I mean, yes he is 90, but I hope everything works out for the best. Especially at this time of year!

Can't seem to find anything else right now, guess we'll be updated a little later on once tests come in.

Here's a little something

Prince Philip is Papworth hospital. Palace not giving more details.

I'd rather he miss out on the fun and recover his full health. Prince Philip is strong and determined, let's hope it was just the Queens cooking.

Oh my! Hopefully he will alright. Anymore news coming in yet?

Well I really don't think it would be the same without him. I'm not saying to rush the recovery but I meant more along the lines of I hope he's able to atleast come home and be with his family for Christmas even if that means he doesn't do as much as he would normally do.

No the palace will not release anymore details for the time being they said. I'm guessing once tests come in we'll hear more from the Palace.

Palace say Prince Philip is in hospital for precautionary tests. He has taken medication for heart condition for years.

He's undergoing tests. Still no informations if he'll spend night in hospital.

I'm sure he's in the best of hands and I hope everything turns out well. My best wishes for his recovery.

It all depends on how serious the chest pains and possible injury are I guess. Christmas can always come to the hospital, even for royalty. :) It may not be the same without him, but a full recovery and missing Christmas day is better than the alternative should this be a serious matter.

Papworth describes itself as the UK's largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital and the country's main heart and lung transplant centre.

It treats more than 22,800 inpatient and day cases and 53,400 outpatients each year from across the UK.

Its services include cardiology, respiratory medicine, and cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation.

Sounds very promising as they say the hospitalization is for tests. Could be a mild pneumonia at this time of year, too. Hope to hear more soon.

Yes, you are right Lumutqueen. He may be a tough old man but he is old. His health is more important than anything else. Our thoughts and prayers for him. :flowers:

I do hope everything is ok, although we know his age is obviously a worry. I hope he is well enough to return to Sandringham, even if he does not attend church. As long he is discharged from hospital.

Chest pains are never to be taken lightly, least of all when one is 90 years of age.

It's all over the news here. I hope it's not too serious and he can re-join his family for Christmas.

He may have to stay overnight for observation just to stay on the safe side; at that age you have to take every precaution.

BBC news have updated their article minutes ago:

BBC News Prince Philip

Discussing the speed at which the royals released the information, she said: "Either this is more serious and therefore they felt they really must issue a statement, or they've simply moved with the times and it's going to get out in social media."

Let's hope it is the latter.

According to the BBC they're 'playing down' speculation of a heart attack, but Philip was taken to Papworth rather than a more local hospital.

Only his doctors know anything at this point.

He was taken to Papworth with chest pains. That's all we know. It was reported as chest pains, not heart problems or even a heart attack.

Right now it's all speculation until updates are given, so we just have to wait.

Apparently a BBC Royal Correspondent said that this was 'clearly disruptive' to the family Christmas. What a rather awful thing to say.
Several newspapers are saying Prince Philip went in last night, and Papworth is just over and hour away from Sandringham.

Which newspapers? Not the tabs I hope.
